"Real friends are family."
❥
"Good morning", Scott says as both of them wake up the next morning, "You're not going to run away again, are you?" "This is my home, Reed. I would have to make you run away", she chuckles instead feeling less heavy than last time. There's still a risk but she's now able to enjoy it a lot more than before. "But?"
"But I'd rather have you in my kitchen making breakfast", she smiles at him shyly but Scott nods and already stands up. She knows he's making great pancakes and he knows that girls like it when he's making them for her, but usually, he never cared about them. Now, it's different. The pair have lots of fun this morning. They joke around, laugh together, make fun of each other and themselves, it's light and easy with each other.
"Will I see you more often now?", Scott eventually asks her before he is about to leave as he's going to see Jeff and Liz also wants to stop by Monty's. "I mean.. do you want to?", Liz asks him once again shyly, although she already has him wrapped around her fingers, she just doesn't know.
Scott chuckles seeing her talk so insecure for once and so he wraps her arms around her body and pulls her into a hug, "Of course." "Okay", Liz nods slowly feeling overwhelmed by the sudden hug. She definitely likes it, she just isn't used to them being so close to each other seriously.
"Hey, E. Monty is here, right?", Liz greets Montgomery's little sister when the younger girl opens the door for their friend. "In his room. Dad is working", she tells her and gives her a curious look, "How was your valentine's day? Are you and Jeff back together?" "No", Liz laughs lightly, "But it was good, better than expected."
"Who was your date then? You probably told Monty so I want to know it, too." Liz looks at her for a few seconds. Would the twelve-year old girl tell anyone? Usually, girls at this age talk a lot but Estela and Liz are extremely close and who could she tell? She's right. Monty knows it, then she can know about, too.
"Have you met Scott?", Liz asks her but doesn't even need an answer anymore. Estela opens her eyes widely not believing what she just heard. "No fucking way. Scott Reed? The cute one with the great smile? Doesn't he make like the best pancakes?", Estela starts asking making Liz laugh. "First of all, he's not that cute and second, I make the best pancakes", Monty joins their conversation giving his best friend a tight hug, "Hey, Els."
"You make the worst, Monty. Just yesterday, you've burnt them! If Liz and Scott are a thing, can I move in with them?", Estela asks jokingly. "Not that fast, E. We're just hooking up. And he does make the best pancakes, I can confirm that", she smiles thinking back to earlier when they've spent the morning together. "Please tell me you took a shower before you came here", Monty teases her.
"Maybe I did, maybe Scott and I did together. Who knows", the girl laughs enjoying to see that the siblings are happy for her. "Can I have Jeff then?" "Try your best against Leah. She's good at keeping him close", Monty adds but Liz shrugs her shoulders. "Two years, Monty. You'll see what happens then", Liz reminds him of their plan once again still thinking it will turned out just like that.
Monty and Liz planned to see the other boys but they grabbed an ice cream with Estela in the city first. Both, the siblings' and Liz's families aren't as good as they could be. Monty and Estela suffer from an aggressive father who's not able to show his children they empathy they've needed all this time.
Liz's only family members are her uncle and her grandfather, she never got to know her parents before they died. On top of that, her uncle is regurlarly sent away for army missions leaving her here alone. He was able to stay when she was younger, but now that she can look after herself, he is sent away again.
Monty, Estela and Liz understand each other and their situations. So whenever they spend time together, that's the closest feeling to a family. As Liz and Monty meet Bryce afterwards, they drove Estela to a friend on their way.
"So how was your date with Reed?", Justin asks the girl as him, Bryce, Monty and her sit together in the pool house. Liz rolls her eyes as she already knew that the boys won't stop asking her about it. The boys are even more interested to hear about it as other people, Scott being one of them, would be coming to a party at Bryce's later on.
"I mean he was annoying at first but I can't complain about anything else. What about Jess and you?", she changes the topic knowing that Justin doesn't like to be asked about it as well. "Good. Can't complain as well", Justin says seriously and first but they give each other a look and then laugh.
"Come on, just admit you've fucked while we've been here so lonely", Bryce adds and taps his friends' shoulders. "I had to go to the cinema alone, okay?", Liz defends herself but of course the boys give her a confused look, "I met Reed there. Did you know that he also eats his popcorn sweet and salty?"
"Still weird", Monty nudges her. "Are you falling for him?", Justin suddenly asks seriously making the girl gasp at his question. "No, no, I'm not falling for Reed", the girl snaps, "How can you even ask that?" "Ohh, she's being defending", Bryce laughs, "We'll see where you end up tonight."
"And I'm not going to save your ass this time. I'll just let you walk into that night with Scotty", Monty warns her. "Monty!", Liz complains acting offended. "Even if you wanted me to, Scott wants me to stay away. I'm here for my bro this time." "What about us, Justy?", Bryce asks his friend making the girl feel hopeful but both of them laugh soon. "Definitely not ruining this night for Scotty."
Soon enough, their friends arrive and the house gets filled with teenagers. Liz has been around her male friends a lot so she quickly gets over to where Sheri is standing as soon as she sees her. Well, it's not only Sheri. "Els", Sheri squeaks hugging her friend tightly, "Please tell me you didn't spend yesterday by yourself."
"Hey", Liz chuckles and turns around to greet the other two people, "Hey, Jason. Reed. It wasn't as bad as you think." As Jason and Sheri spent valentine's day together the day before, they also decided to go to the party together. They clearly enjoy each other's company. As soon as Liz saw Scott, her body stiffened but she managed to lie good enough for Jason to believe it. Sheri and her would talk about it when he's not around.
"Wait. Don't tell me you, Liz Lennox, spent valentine's day by yourself", Jason says surprised, "Aren't like tons of jocks waiting at your door?" "Well, maybe I'm not opening my door for one at the moment?", Liz replies confidently and Jason smiles at me. "For no one?", Scott goes into it and Sheri chuckles while Liz can pull herself together in front of Jason. "Depends on who it is", Liz answers honestly and tells Sheri that she would talk to her later as she wants her and Jason to have a great time together first.
