"If you're facing an ultimatum, always choose for those who didn't make you choose."
❥
"You didn't tell Jeff? You fucking didn't tell him that he almost died because of Sheri?!", Clay yells at Liz after he's found out that they pretend that everything is normal. "There was no time for it!", she tries to defend myself. "There was no time? That's your excuse? Maybe you should have one time less!" "Clay, be quiet please. We're in public", Liz whispers.
"That's what you care about?!", he still shouts at her and moves his hands through the air aggressively, "You know what? You and your fucking jock friends are hypocritical! Hypocritical, pathetic and false. It's almost hilarious."
"Clay, please, you didn't even let me explain me it", she looks at him hurt, she never thought he would talk to her in that way, "We-" "I don't care about it." "Wow okay, I won't force you to listen to me." "If you don't tell Jeff by tomorrow, I'll do it."
"Babe, what happened?", Scott hurries to her as soon as they meet after school and she's wiping away the tears that were streaming down her cheeks as if she's never cried and everything came out in that moment. "It's.. it's nothing. Don't worry about me."
"Something bothers you obviously and I'm here to help you", he holds her upper arms softly, "Tell me what's wrong." "Els, why are you crying?", Sheri and Monty join them laying their arm around Liz's waist, "Scott what did you do?" "What? I didn't do anything." "Yeah sure."
"Guys.. it's not because of him.. Scotty is great", she even laughs frustrated,"It's Clay. We.. he found out that we hadn't told Jeff about what happened and he became mad.. I mean really angry, he even insulted all of us. He gave me an ultimatum. Either we tell Jeff today or he will do that tomorrow.."
"What?! That little rat! Where is he? He won't do anything", Scott became defensive but not even him could change what's unavoidable, "Babe, I promise you, he will pay for hurting you." "No, no, leave him alone. He's right. That's what bothers me the most. I should have told Jeff weeks ago."
"That doesn't give him the right to insult anyone, especially not you." "Who does he think he is", Zach ranted about Clay, "Scott's right, he won't get through with it." "He already is!" "I will tell him", Sheri whispered, "It's my fault and I have to be responsible."
"I'll go with you, we promised to go through everything together." "Me too and Monty, Bryce and Chloe will do the same when they hear about it", Scott squeezed my hands lightly to show me that he was there for us. "Zach?" "I have to meet Alex after school to work on his abilities but I could make it before", he only muttered.
"Okay", I forced a smile. "Hey, thanks for being here. You don't need to go with us you know", I looked over to Scott who walked next to me to the cafeteria. "I'm your boyfriend, of course I'm here for you." "I'm really lucky to have you, Scotty."
"It just makes me angry to see how the people who are supposed to treat you as a friend turn their back on you. Clay will tell Jess who will tell Alex and so on and in the end you stand here crying." "I can't blame them. We were friends and because of my decision they keep distance. If it bothers them so much then so it be. Scott, stop that", I suddenly hit his arm reflexively when he formed his hands to a gun and pointed to Alex - who of course looked annoyed - when we walked by although I admit that I laughed slightly.
"What? They hurt you. I can play with their minds or not?" "Baby, you're the best", I grinned and kissed him. "Are you going to court today?", Jeff asked me. "No, why would I?" "Well, she's your friend and she's testifying today so I thought you would support her." "We're not really friends anymore. She's angry with me and so is Clay and Alex probably too", I sighed annoyed about how it all went down just because we had different opinions.
"Why would Clay be mad at you?", Jeff wondered, "Just today you visited Skye together." "You will find out soon. Hey, can we meet after the lesson? The others and I wanted to talk to you at my place." "It sounds serious. What happened?" "Will you meet us or not?" "I'll see you at your apartment then."
Jeff and I had been dating for about two and a half years and everything had been amazing. Well, the older we became the more time he spent with baseball. When started going to middle school the boys they were doing the tryouts and made it. Everyone became a part of the sport teams so they were quite busy, always gave their best, never missed a workout. I was so proud of all of my friends. Meanwhile Sheri and I had joined the cheerleading team and never missed a game. After that we often went to Rosie's together and celebrated the victories as well as the defeats.
It sounds like a fairytale so why would the cutest boy at Riverdale High break up with me?
"I'm so sorry, Ellie. Couch wanted to talk to me and we forgot the time", Jeff ran up to me being an hour late and kissed my cheek gently, "Hey, you're wet. I'd give you my towel but it's sweaty." "It's alright", I replied in a higher voice than usual, "I can take a shower. Can we just go home?"
"Els.. My parents invited coach for dinner. He's been really content with my progress and he wants me to become the captain and apply for scolarships next year and the year after that. I'm so-" "You're sorry, I know", I only sighed, didn't know what else to say since that's the conversation we had for the past weeks, maybe months.
"We've talked about it, you said you were okay with me being busier." "And I am okay with it, I'm even happy for you. But what bothers me is that you could have at least sent me a message. I wouldn't have to wait in the rain if you just told me that you had other plans today."
"Are you serious? You blame me for taking care of my sports career? You said you would support me!" "Jeff, calm down. I was just saying that you could have messaged me, that's all." "You do that since we've talked about it, making me feel bad. What do you expect me to do? To stop playing baseball so I can come home to my girl and cuddle her all night?"
"Don't be so mean, please. It's really not easy." "Not easy? That out of your mouth?" "Yes, Jeffrey, that out of my mouth! I'm not just your girlfriend, I have other things to do, too. Whenever I'm not at school or with you or sometimes with the others, I study at home. That's what I do. I don't even take time for myself so I can handle all of it and be the best I can. I understand how you feel but you're unfair right now and I can't handle it. You're being an ass."
"Then why don't you just break up with me, huh?" "I don't even think about that-" "You don't? Because I'm pretty sure that you talked to Monty about it. I have to go now", his voice finally became quieter but it still hurt. "But you picked me up today", I still whispered afraid of making him angrier. "Well then call Montgomery or who the fuck is not an ass to you", he replied coldly before sitting down in his car and drove away.
I didn't call anyone or else they might have asked me what happened and I couldn't lie so it would only be worse. I walked home in the rain that day.
