"Cuddle whenever you feel distant, but also cuddle in any other moment."
❥
"Why didn't you say yes to Jeff when he asked you to go to the dance with him?", Scott asks Liz as she's driving home to him first and he's sitting next to her. "Ugh, why do you have to ask, too?", she groans remembering how Monty, Bryce, Justin and what it feels like every other person at Liberty High asked her. "Sorry, didn't mean to rub it in", he replies surprised by the girls reaction.
"You didn't", she sighs knowing that none of them had a bad intention, "This is just everyone's favorite topic today when they talk to me." "I mean, Jeff and you were Liberty's best couple. They either care about you or need some information to gossip." "Then why did you ask?", the girl question her passenger interested. As much as she knows, he doesn't care about her but she couldn't also imagine him gossiping.
"I'm just interested. I know why Jeff asked you, everyone knows that. But no one understands why you didn't agree, not even Jeff." "So is that why he went to the dance with that bimbo?" "Bimbo, huh?", Scott chuckles not having heard her say that about someone yet. "Yes, I mean no. I didn't mean to insult her. It's just.. she's so obsessed with him. I don't think she even really likes him. It's more like her wanting to be with him for his status."
"What would you say if he asked someone else, Elena for example?" "I mean Elena is nice. She's a part of the soccer team so she's a good athete and would be good for him. So I wouldn't mind if he asked her. I just want him to be happy, you know", Liz tells Scott honestly and the boy nods. For the rest of their drive they change the subject to how school is going.
"Here we are", Liz states as she stops Montgomery's Jeep in front of Scott's house. "Thanks for the ride and for saving me from the girls", Scott thanks the girl and both of them laugh. "You're welcome. It's Monty's gas anyways", Liz jokes and bites her lip instinctively not knowing how to say goodbye to him. Should she give him her hand or hug him or do nothing at all? Scott Reed is has always been confusing her and it's still the same in that moment.
What she doesn't know is that Scott is feeling the same. He's got no idea what he can say to her or do. "Would you want to.. come in for a drink or something?", Scott asks her spontaneously trying to act like he isn't nervous at all. Liz thinks about his offer for a moment. Just because she would follow him into the house and have a drink with him, doesn't mean that she crosses a line, right? Before considering all the possible outcomes, she nods. This time, she would do whatever she wants to do which means that she follows him into his house.
"So.. I don't have any whiskey here but are you fine with a beer?", Scott asks her as soon as they enter the kitchen. Instead of answering his question, she gives him a surprised look. "You know that whiskey is my favorite drink?" "Jeff used to talk about you a lot.. you know", Scott shrugs pretending to not care when in reality, he used to watch her at parties.
It is true that Jeff talks about her a lot and he also mentioned her favorites of everything from time to time but the reason why he knows it is simply because he cares. !Good old Jeff", Liz chuckles and takes the bottle of beer that he gives her and raises it, "To Jeff, Leah and Kim." "To those three", Scott laughs and leads her upstairs into his room where they sit down on his bed.
"Oh my god, you still have a Nintendo 64? That's so cool", Liz exclaims as soon as she scans his room and notices the old console. "I got it from my cousins because they don't use it anymore and I still like the games that we've played", Scott explains to her surprised by her reaction, "How do you know about it? We were pretty young back then."
"My uncle owns one and we used to play games for hours sometimes. That's a part of my childhood." "You're uncle means a lot to you, hm?", Scott reasons suddenly becoming quite emotional as she mentions her uncle. Jeff has talked to him about her family issues once or twice. He knows what the girl has been through and just like his best friend, he admires her for staying strong. "He's everything that I've got", she admits, "Him and my grandpa."
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have started this.. We can talk about something else." "It's fine, really", the girl gives him a weak smile but he still feels like something has changed. "You're cold", he notices looking at her arms being decorated with goosebumps, "Come on, lay down under the blanket." "Can you.. Can you lay down with me? I'd like to cuddle", Liz asks Scott shyly not knowing how he might react but asking him was more important to her than staying quiet.
"Of course", he smiles at her warmly and so she lays down next to him and Scott puts the blanket on top of the two pair. They begin talking about their families and the more emotional their conversation is, the more closer they cuddle. "I mean, sometimes it would be great to have someone around and kiss that person, love her", Scott just answers her question if he wants to have a girlfriend at the moment or not.
She nods understanding what he's talking about as she feels quite equal to him and as they continue to talk, she looks up to him from the side. He notices her look and returns it when neither of them can look away no more. Their faces are inches apart and they get closer to one another more and more. Both of them pluck up their courage and in the same moment, they overcome the distance and crash their lips onto each other's. The kiss is passionate from the beginning and both of them crave for more. Liz quickly lays her hand into Scott's neck so she can pull him closer and he lets his hand rest on her hips at first, but then he changes their position and lays her down onto the bed leaning over her. Both of the teenagers crave more and continue to meet the other's need.
