Between the hourly nurse checks and the nightmares, I didn't sleep well that night.
By the time we got the last of my tests done, waited for the results, met with the doctor one more time, and finished my discharge paperwork, it was late afternoon, almost early evening, when I climbed into the company van to finally leave the hospital.
And I was exhausted.
Leaning my head back against the seat, I closed my eyes and spent the short ride back to the dorm in silence, Joon's hand clenched tightly between my own. I could feel him darting worried glances in my direction for the duration of the ride, but thankfully, he didn't try to talk to me, noticing how exhausted I appeared to be.
Reaching the dorm, Joon came around the van to help me out of the car, taking my uninjured arm in his as he led me carefully to the stairs. Glancing over at him, I gave him a half smile as I said, my tone tiredly amused, "You don't need to carry me. I'm completely capable of walking up a flight of stairs on my own two feet."
He raised an eyebrow at me in slight annoyance at my independence, but didn't say anything in return as he led me up the stairs, his hand underneath my elbow for constant support.
When we reached the door to the apartment, he leaned down to push open the door, and I let out a quiet sigh of relief as he was distracted. I'd never admit it, but going up those stairs in my tired and beaten state had been a struggle. More than I cared to say.
Joon stepped aside to let me enter first, and when I came into the living room of the apartment, I instantly felt relief bloom in my chest.
I was home. Everything was okay.
Taking in a deep breath, the smell of the dorm familiar in my nose, I let a grin slip across my face as the boys all stood from various positions on the couch and floor at our arrival. Kook darted over to us, throwing his arms around me so fiercely that he almost bowled me over. "Whoa there, careful baby boy." I laughed, suddenly feeling slightly re energized just from being in their presence again. Chim followed his younger brother, his arms going around both of us as he grinned at me over Kook's broad shoulder.
"Let her sit down, guys." Joon spoke up from beside me, and though his tone was stern, I could hear the slight smile in his words at the reaction of the boys to having me home again.
Tae appeared, grabbing my hand in one of his large warm ones, as he tugged me carefully from his brothers' grasp, leading me toward the couch, as Hobi came to my side, his eyes sparkling as he put an arm around my shoulders and said excitedly, "Welcome home, noona!"
"Thanks, Hobi." I stopped short of the couch, causing Tae to glance back at me curiously.
Running a hand through my disheveled and severely greasy hair, I offered him a small smile as I glanced over my shoulder at Joon, who was still hovering, and said, "Actually, if it's okay with you guys, I really want to shower before anything else. I'd like to wash the smell of hostage and hospital off of me." I glanced at the other boys, gathered around me, and then continued softly, saying, "However, after that, I really just want to eat pizza and watch a movie, snuggling with you all. I missed you, and honestly, hospital food was not satisfying."
Jin jumped up from his spot on the couch, clapping his hands as he said loudly to the others, "All right, you heard her. I'll order pizza. Let her shower in peace."
Yoongi patted my shoulder as he walked by, saying in a slightly teasing grumble, "Yes, please shower, noona. You smell awful."
I laughed, the sound tired even to my own ears, and then I felt Joon rest his large hand on my shoulder, as he said quietly, "Go get cleaned up. I'll get the rest of the stuff from the van."
