"Sorry, all I can do is keep you cold. Pitch was right... I make a mess of everything," I say, resting my chin on (Y/N)'s head.
We sat there in silence as I though if how to get us out of this mess I made.
Now...
(Y/N) looked up, her eyes watery as she spoke. "Jack, your not making a mess. Your here with me now. If you werent, who knows where I'd be. I could've been dead if it weren't for you."
I smiled, and kissed the top of her head, and she blushed. "And I thank you for that," she said, holding my hands tightly to her chest. I could feel her heartbeat, and her breaths were quick and sharp.
She turned her body to face me, and when she did, she reached into her hoodie pocket. She pulled out a tooth box. It had dimond patterns and gold embedded on it. I reeled a sharp breath in, and let go of her.
"Where did you get that?" I asked, my curiosity showing. She lowered her head again and sighed. "Pitch gave this to me. He said to hold onto it. I knew it was wrong to take it, but he gave me mine as well," she said as she pulled her out from her hoodie pocket.
She looked at me, her (E/C) eyes teary. I saw things I once forgot. It showed me how many times I've broken down. You told Tooth, you forgot your memories. It will show you." She grabbed my hand and placed it on my box.
Reality glistens away like the pieces of a kaleidoscope to reveal what I believe are my memories.
An adult woman, a small girl, and a lanky boy - all with brown hair - are walking around. The boy has moose antlers in his hands, holding them against his head.
"You're funny, Jack," said a boy next to them.
The vision ends and reveals another memory. The same lanky boy is hanging upside down from a tree branch while 3 children watch him - one is the same girl from the last memory.
The girl looks at the boy with a concerned look. "Jack, get down from there!"
It ends again to reveal another memory, this time more clear. The boy has a pair of ice-skates slung over his shoulder. He and the little girl are leaving a house. The same woman from the last memory tells them to be careful and the boy turns around, revealing Jack's face.
Jack smiled then laughs as the girl next to him pulls him along. "We will," he says as he walk out onto the ice.
The memory ends to show the last memory. Jack takes off his other ice skate and places it on the iced-over lake. "It's okay, it's okay! Don't look down, just look at me," he said as the girl was standing on cracking ice. The girl looks down to the ice then looks back up to Jack.
"Jack, I'm scared." Jack looked at the ice, then at the girl. "I- I know, I know, but you're gonna be alright - you're not gonna fall in. Uh... We're gonna have a little fun instead!"
The girl looked even more scared than what she was before. "No, we're not," she said, trying to get off the ice. Jack waved his hands gently, morning for her to stop. "Would I trick you?"
The girl looked back at Jack. "Yes! You always play tricks!"
Jack sighed, then smiled gently. "Well, alright, well not- not- not this time. I promise, I promise you're gonna be- you're gonna be fine. Ya have to believe in me."
The girl gulped, and Jack looked like he got an idea. "You wanna play a game? We're gonna play hopscotch! Like we play every day! I- It's as easy as, uh, one," the ice cracks a little beneath his feet. He almost falls over, but doesn't, and the girl laughs "Two!" She laughs again, obviously amused. "Three!" He lands on a part that isn't as thin as the ice they were just on.
"Alright." Jack reaches for a stick on the ice. "Now it's your turn. One," he says as he angles the stuck just right. The girl gasp as the ice continues to crack under her.
"Two..."
"That's it, that's it." He holds out the stick near her as she gasps. "Three!"
Jack grabs her by the knees using the crook in the stick and slides her around so that she is in the safe spot, but he has been flung into the cracking area. He sits up and smiles. She leans up on her arms, smiling too. He stands up, pleased, but his weight cracks the ice at last.
As he falls in, he looks up at the moon, and realizes it keeps getting brighter and bigger, until the memory fades at last.
The memory fades, and I'm left with shock as (Y/N) stares at me, confused. I let out a breath I realize I was holding in.
"Did you see- Did you see that?" I asked, pure shock still glued to my face. "It- it was- it was me! I had a family! I had a sister! I saved her!" I laugh hysterically, then look to the moon. "That's why you chose me... I'm- I'm a Guardian!" (Y/N) looked at me, confusion on her face. She shifted her position and winced, grabbing the side of her chest. Pain etched on her face, she coughed a little before smiling sheepishly. I rushed to her side, careful that I didn't injure her more.
I stood up, and walked over to my staff. "We have to get out of here." I put the two broken prices of the staff together, trying to fix it. I push them together, but after a moment, nothing happens. I grunt in frustration and confusion. I stand up fully and concentrate more on the staff.
I close my eyes, keeping all attention to trying to fix it. I hear a gasp, and open my eyes to find the staff creating a blue light in the crack of the staff. The light grows brighter, and when I use more force, the light becomes almost blinding I close my eyes again as (Y/N) shields her eyes.
When I open my eyes, the staff is fixed and covered in frost again. I smile and walk over to (Y/N). I hold out my hand, gesturing for her to take it. "How about we get out of here, hmm?" She grabs my hand, but after standing up, she almost collapses. Before she falls back to the ground, I catch her.
"Hey, we're gonna get you out of here and get you somewhere safe. Okay?" I ask, trying to catch the gaze of her eyes. As she lowers her head, she nods. "O-okay," she said barely over a whisper. I can see the tiredness and pain in her face as tears fall down her cheeks. I put her arm around my waist, and hold her around hers as we fly out of the crevice.
