Chapter 29

Previously:

After a few minutes, she looked back up at me. "Well," she started. "When I met you and (Y/N), you guys seemed so cute together, and when she said no, I just-" she was cut off by a sound coming from behind me.

Before I could look, she wrapped her arms around my neck, and leaned in.

Now...

(Y/N) pov.

As I came out of the tree line, I saw Jack and Amber standing next to eachother. As I got closer, Amber leaned in, wrapped her arms around Jack, and kissed him.

I held back a gasp, and dropped my skates. I stood there in shock and horror as they stood there, just like that. After a brief moment, Amber pushed away from Jack, staring at me. Jack followed her gaze not long after, and when he saw me, all colour drained from his face. Before he could say anything, I ran towards my house, slamming the front door as soon as I got inside.

Stifling back tears, I covered my mouth and slumped against the door. After awhile, I let them fall. I sat there sobbing, not knowing what to do.

As I climbed into my window, I realized I left my skates and backpack back at the lake. I went to my closet, and grabbed my blue sweater off of its hanger to put it on.

As soon as I had it on, I went downstairs and opened the front door. The breeze making me shiver as I kept thinking about the little trip me and Jack had.

It was comforting, to think about the way he smiled, the way he laughed. And just hearing his voice was calming. I would've given anything to go on that trip again.

As I reached the lake, I ran what I was going to say to him through my mind. I was just going to try and say what I felt to him right then and there. And I realized it would hurt alot if he said no, but it's a normal thing. And I believe I can handle it.  I mean, he is just a Guardian, and he doesn't age after all.

Right?

I grabbed my bag and skates, and started walking back the way I came. It was hard to see where I was going, mostly because it was dark out, and I didn't have my phone with me, so I constantly walked into trees and tripped over bushes and branches.

I started humming to the sounds of owls and chirps of crickets. As I hummed, I could hear faint voices. I started picking up my pace. As I got closer to the edge of the woods, I could see my house.

I looked towards the voices, and saw Amber and Chap talking. To avoid getting myself seen by Chap, I rushed over to a tree and hid behind it.

"Well, I'm still here if you ever find out that the guy you like isn't interested in you," Chap said, Amber reaching out for his hand. I watched in silence as they kept talking.

"Well, he said no, and I don't think he's interested in her." Amber said shaking her head. Chap looked at her, then turned and walked into the woods. As I was about to leave, Jack landed on the ground infront of Amber. I stayed hidden as I listened closely.

"Did you hear that little convo? Sorry you had to hear it," she said, sighing. Looking down at her hands, she continued. "It is true that I don't like him, because..." She trailed off, seeming as though she couldn't find the words.

Jack kept staring at her, and the tension was tight. I shifted my position, trying harder to see. As I couldn't take it anymore, I stood up and started heading back to my house. Unfortunately, I tripped over some brush.

When I got back up, and came out of the tree line, I saw Jack and Amber standing next to eachother. As I got closer, Amber leaned in, wrapped her arms around Jack, and kissed him.
