She stared at me before smiling. "Well, I guess that explains how you know me so well, Frost," she said, giggling to herself. I joined in with her, letting the moment be embroidered into my head.

Now...

(Y/N)'s pov...

The sun had gone down well after a few hours ago. I sat on the roof of my broken house, gazing over the forest and averting my eyes back to the sky.

I heard a knocking coming from my right, and I turned my head to see Jack leaning against one of the walls staring at me, smirk on his face. I smiled a little before leaning my head against the wall behind me.

He walked over, placing his staff infront of the both of us when he sat down. He stared at me before chuckling, and I looked over at him to see him creating patterns on the roof. I smiled as I ran my fingers across the frost, snowflakes and swirls appearing when my hand left. I giggled, resting my head on Jack's as he hugged me tight.

Jack sighed before handing me a book. I looked at it, realizing it was a notebook I carried with me to school. Or, what I used to carry around when at school. But times have changed since then.

"I'm sorry. It's my fault," Jack said, starting to stand up. I looked at him before grabbing his wrist. Our eyes met eachother for a brief moment before he turned his head, sighing. I continued to look at him, questions forming in my mind.

"What?" I asked, pulling him back down to sit. "You have nothing to be sorry for. And nothing's -" He cut me off. He looked back at me and hugged me, pulling me close. "It us my fault. Ever since I met you, Pitch has been trying to get to you, even kill you. And I can't bear that."

He stood up, grabbing his staff. He held my hand for a minute before pulling me close again. "I'm sorry," he said before leaping off the roof, leaving me stranded on the roof, tears in my eyes.

"Too many things have happened. As soon as I met Jack for real, my whole world crumbled. I couldn't find simple happiness anymore, Pitch was trying to kill me. My while world crumbled. I never knew I could feel so stranded in a single moment.

"But Jack was there. He was a new happiness. He made me feel special. Like there was nothing else on earth."

I started at the book, tears falling on the pages. I dropped the book on the roof before leaving back into the house.

Earlier, Jack's pov...

(Y/N) had gone out to the roof for air, and she handed me a book. It seemed to be full of writing, like the one I found before. I flipped through the pages, smiling at the little notes and doodles jotted down.

Her version of how she saw this world was amazing to me. Of course she dreamed of a world where everything was perfect, but she found her own way into reality. As I flipped the page to continue reading, something dashed by the window.

I closed the book, walking out the front door to see what it was. I stared up, realizing that the trees were so packed I couldn't see through them.

Something caught my eye off to my right. I fly over to a stump on the ground, where I had seen it. I stared into the dark, trying to figure out where it went.

All of a sudden, everything goes black, and gold and black streaks surround me. It isn't long before I hear Pitch's laughter. His voice surrounds me, and I'm unable to figure out where exactly it's located.

"Oh Jack, when will you understand?" He says as I look around frantically for a way out.

"You can't protect her, Jack. Not forever." I stare into the dark, panic arising. "Don't you dare touch her!" I yell, searching for a way out of this mess. He laughs before revealing himself. I stare at him for a second before rushing at him. I throw a hit from my staff at him, but he catches it midair, just before it hits his face. My anger turns into surprise before he yanks it away from me and snapping into four. I bend over in pain as he reaches for my neck. I'm unable to react in time, so he lifts me off the floor, my feet a few inches off the floor.

I try to peel his hands away from my neck, but unable to even lighten his grasp. My air is being cut off, and it's hard for me to breath, as well as it is painful.

I kick and claw at him, but his smile and laugh is the only thing I manage to get from him.

My vision goes black as Pitch tightens his grasp.

Pitch's pov...

Jack kicks and claws at me, but I just smile and laugh as I tighten my grasp around his neck.

It truly is a great time to see the fear, and heartbreak radiate off of people.

Jack's actions slow and eventually stop. I toss him to the floor as my smile fades.

"Jack, your worthless. Your nothing with out it," I say, staring at his precious staff.

One of my pets approach me,  whining silently. I stroke it, smiling to myself.

"What a pretty little nightmare. Such a shame."

I fly up to the roof of the broken down house, sure that I am not seen or heard. She sits there quietly, staring up at the sky. I smiled at my nightmare next to me. "What an adorable rose! And look at her- oh! Precious child... so sweet, so full of hope and wonder. Why, there's only one thing missing: a touch of Fear!" I say, and the nightmare shapes to Jack. I laugh silently to myself as the magic unravels.

The nightmare knocks on the wall, grabbing her attention. I smiled as it tells her that he is leaving. And when the nightmare disappears off into the sky, I hunker down in the shadows, waiting for it to return silently.

She drops the book she was given, as I had found it earlier, and walks inside the house.

I now stand along on the roof, staring up at the sky, when an overpowering yet familiar sense draws me to the man in the moon.

"Don't look at me like that, old friend. You must have known this day would come. My Nightmares are finally ready - are your Guardians?"
