CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT: IF YOU WON'T PROTECT ONE ANOTHER... WHO WILL

→ OUTSIDE GOTHAM CITY.
rose sat up in the bed outside. rose tried to sneak out when jason woke up. "morning beautiful." jason said, sitting up next to her.
jason kissed her shoulder and up to her cheek, "more like afternoon." rose replied.
"why'd you let me sleep in so late?" jason asked.
"you were tired. we busted three drug rings last night." rose replied.
"hey, i could've stopped at two." jason replied. "liar." rose said. they shared a quick kiss.
"wanna do another?" rose asked.
"there more eggs left?" jason asked.
"nah, these people weren't exactly expecting up to break in and raid their fridge." rose replied. jason opened his phone and took selfies with rose.
"stop being a creep, jason." rose replied grabbing his phone. "what's wrong?" jason asked.
"nothing. just... don't post that."
"what? we're not a couple? you're just slumming it with me?" jason asked.
"maybe." rose replied.
"sounds familiar." jason uttered softly. rose looked over her shoulder, "did you just compare me to octavia?"
jason tilted his head, "maybe."
"you don't know my life, jason." rose said, "i could be a serial killer or worse."
"maybe i like serial killers." jason said, leaning in to kiss her again.
"well then, maybe you should go back to octavia." rose said, pulling back and getting off of the bed. jason sighed, "me and octavia are broken up. she left me remember?"
"she still cares about you." rose replied. "is that a problem?" jason asked.
"i bet you still care about her." rose said.
"i don't." jason retorted quickly.
truth is, he did care. he wondered what she was doing. how she was. what she was feeling. he knew he broke her heart and he wanted to apologize for it. but, he's worried he's ruined all chances with octavia grayson.
"why are you asking so many questions about octavia?" jason asked.
"why are you being nosy?" rose asked, putting her red jacket on, "you ask a lot of questions for someone who doesn't give any answers."
