Corey's POV
"I really miss him."
Colby was crying and I felt terrible, but Devyn, Aaron and I already had an idea we came up with around two weeks ago, but we wanted to keep it a secret.
We knew Colby didn't have much money, so we already bought tickets and I wanted to surprise him with them on Saturday, the day we leave, and since it's Friday, we have to hurry and pack everything up.
"Hey, Colby." I say, looking at the beautiful baby blue orbs as they slowly turned gray with sadness.
"What?" He replied, letting another tear fall.
"I have a surprise for you Saturday and I was waiting, but I guess I can give it to you now." I dug into my pocket, searching for the slip of paper I was looking for.
"Here. We leave in twenty four hours." I said, handing him the envelope, smiling as I saw the excited reaction he had once he opened it up and read what was inside.
"Wait... We're going to Wichita, in tomorrow?! We need to pack!" He yelled, jumping off the bed and out of the room.
"Where are you going?" I asked, shortly following.
"To the kitchen because I'm hungry and then I'm going to start packing." He yelled back, sprinting down the stairs, almost falling.
I laughed, amused by his excitement.
"Aaron and Devyn are coming too." I say, finally catching up to him.
He hummed in response. "So they were in on it too?"
"Yep."
"When were you going to tell me?" He asked, grabbing the cereal and a bowl out of the cabinets just above the fridge.
"Yesterday so you could pack early, but that obviously didn't happen." I replied, leaning against the doorway.
He nodded. "Do you want any?"
"Nah. But I'll take a water."
After we finish, I run downstairs to the already packed up basement.
I end up calling Aaron, one of our friends from college, and Devyn, my girlfriend, to come help us pack up while Colby was at work cleaning the upstairs.
Getting to the floor of the room, I grab an empty box sitting right in front of the cleared bookshelf underneath the steps where I kept my games.
I ran back up the stairs and into the kitchen so I could start cleaning out the fridge, having it not been very difficult to do since we barely ate anything refrigerated.
When I was done, I ran back downstairs and grabbed another box, starting to pack up the plates and bowls, along with the not plastic silverware.
By the time that I taped the box, it was only 1 o' clock.
I heard the door to the apartment door open, so I walked over to see who it is.
"Hey, Core."
"Hey, Aaron."
We shared a hug as Aaron walked past, heading towards the basement to get a box I assumed.
Sure enough, a second later, he appeared with an opened box that held nothing.
"Where do you want me to start?"
He asked, petting our dog, Navi as she ran over to him.
"Umm... You can go clean out all of the cabinets and whatever needs packed up in the kitchen. You brought the U-Haul, right?"
I ask, heading towards the dining room to clean.
"Yeah. It's right out front."
I nod, walking back over towards Aaron as I remembered I might want to use the keys to unlock the truck if I wanted to pack up the chairs and the table.
He was already fishing in his pocket to get out the keys as he smiled at me.
"Here. Do you need help?"
I shake my head, walking out the door and to the trailer.
Unlocking the truck, I walk to the back, pulling the little handle up to open it.
Once the door hatch caught, I walked back into the house where Aaron was packing up the spatulas and all that good stuff.
I walked into the dining room and picked up a chair, walking to the U-Haul to put it inside.
I did the same thing with everything else we packed up, including all of the boxes and what was in the middle floor rooms; the kitchen, dining room, and living room.
We then walked up the stairs to see what Colby had gotten done.
"Jeez, Colby."
I say, seeing his room was already packed up except for his bare bed.
"What?"
He replied, cutting the end of the tape where it connects to the rest of the roll, sealing up his last box.
"You got this done that quick?"
Aaron asked, exasperated.
Colby chuckled a little, walking back over to us.
"So what now?"
He asked, wiping away the sweat that lay on his forehead.
"I guess we just pack the boxes up. The rest of the house is already cleaned."
I answered, walking into his room and picking up a box marked Sammy.
I frowned a little bit, but I guess they didn't see it.
Since Aaron and I are already mechanical engineers, we have a lot of free time unless our job, yes, we work at the same place, need us.
Devyn, who also had free time, was a cosmetologist, so she had her own business and everything.
We all ended up cleaning up the basement, bathroom, and mine and Devyn's room within a week.
How Colby didn't notice it is beyond me, but that's a whole different subject.
Once we got everything packed up into the U-Haul, it was about 5 PM, so we went to dinner at Chipotle.
After that, we went home and got ready for bed.
I just sat in bed for probably a few hours thinking to myself.
This is going to be a long weekend.

Ayeee. I updatedddd. I know, this is a bit shorter than it has been, but honestly, I've been busy. It's kind of hard to update on time. Once basketball season ends, I'll have time to update until track and soccer start. Okay. See ya. ✌️😘
