~Saturday morning~
"Colby. Colby."
Corey said, shaking the sleeping boy.
"Huh?"
Colby replied, shaking the tiredness from his body as he slowly sat up on the couch.
"It's time to go to the airport."
Corey smiled, backing away from Colby as he jumped up.
"Really? Okay! We've gotta go!"
Colby yelled, running up to his room.
He grabbed the little pile of clothes off of his bare bedroom's floor, changing quickly.
Corey beat him outside as he already had his car started.
The other brunette ran to the vehicle, almost falling over as he grabbed the handle.
He swung the door open, jumped in, and slammed the door shut.
"Jeez, Colby. You don't have to slam it."
Corey said, letting out a chuckle.
He pulled out of his apartment complex and headed towards the LA airport.
"Okay, so Devyn and Aaron left around 6 with the U-Haul."
Corey said, tapping his hands on the steering wheel to the beat of music of the radio.
"Okay, so they'll be there... 3AM tomorrow morning."
Colby replied, doing math in his head.
"Yep. And since we're taking a plane, we'll be there at 4PM today."
Corey smiled at his friend, shaking his head as Colby got excited.
On his phone, Colby pulled open his text messages, frowning as he saw all of Sam's.
They ranged from talking about his nightmares to saying he finished college.
The last text left Colby in tears.
Sam: Hey, Colbs. I did it. I made it through college. I've already got a job at the nursing home and I love it there. The people are so nice and they accept me as gay. I wish you were here. I love you so much.
When Colby sniffled, Corey looked over at him, frowning a little bit as he put his hand on his friend's shoulder.
"Hey, Colby. Are you okay?"
Colby shook his head.
"No. Sam texted me yesterday saying he finished college. I'm so proud of him. I wish I was there to hug him."
He sobbed, slamming his phone into the seat.
"It's not fair, Corey. Why did we have to be apart?"
Corey shedded a tear.
Seeing his best friend sad like this makes him feel terrible.
"Hey, remember. We'll be there in 4 hours."
Colby looked up, softly smiling at Corey.
"Oh yeah. I forgot about that. I still feel bad though."
"Well, yeah. You will, Colby. It's called guilt. You feel guilty because you think you left Sam, but you didn't."
"Yeah, but I did leave him."
"No, you just went away for college. Leaving someone means being gone forever. You're coming back, so you didn't leave him."
Colby sat there, replaying what Corey just said over and over in his head.
"I guess you're right."
Corey nodded, looking out the windshield as he just realized they're almost at the airport.
"Guess what."
"What?"
"We're almost there."
Corey said, pointing at the sign in front of them that had an arrow pointing at the road to the left beside the word airport.
"Wow."
"Yeah."
Corey pulled the car onto the road, driving until they made it to their destination.
They got out of the car, got their luggage out of the trunk, and went into the airport.
"You got your pass?"
Corey asked, rummaging in his pocket, grabbing his.
"Yeah."
Getting to the gate they need, they both take out their tickets and boarding passes.
"Your tickets?"
Asked the flight attendant as she stuck her hand out.
Both boys handed her their tickets and held up their passes.
"Okay. You can go in."
She said, smiling.
They smiled back and walked through the gate.
"You ready?"
Corey asked.
"Oh, hell yes."
Colby answered immediately.
They both laughed and got onto the plane.
"Okay, where do you want to sit?"
Corey asked, pointing at the seats beside him.
Colby shrugged then nodded.
The taller boy pulled open the hatch above them and put their bags into it.
He sat back down and took out his phone, scrolling through Instagram.
Colby pulled his out too and opened up his messages, sending one to Sam for the first time in years.
He then put his phone into his pocket and slid his pillow he took out of his bag behind his head.
Putting his earbuds in his ears, Colby turned on his music and slowly fell asleep for the next four hours.
Corey did the same, leaving them to their own thoughts and dreams.
