I waited in the alley like always. My smuggled cough syrup was filled to the brim in my bag. Cars passed by down the roads at the ends of the gravel paths. Bev stood close to my side, wiping away her runny nose and hugging her bear close to her chest. She stared up at the stars and let out a hoarse cough.
"Where are these guys?" She whispered to me after a while. Bev had a strong, evident rhotacism, meaning she struggled with pronouncing most of her 'r's as 'w's.
"I have no idea..." I sighed, starting to feel just as impatient as her as I lightly tapped my foot.
"They need to hurry their asses up. I'm hungry." She said, Making me chuckle. I placed a hand on her soft, blonde head.
"Chill, Bev. You know these kids are addicted to lean, they'll be here soon enough." I assured her. We waited silently a few more minutes.
"Y/n!" We heard a whisper from up ahead. I smirked as the older boy, along with some of his friends, came parading quietly down the alley. Zach lifted the collar of his black leather jacket, and stuffed his hands into his pockets. I couldn't help grin at his tiny black beard, sprouting up around his chin and under his nose. His thick head of curly hair bounced through the darkness, and his dark, coffee-bean skin glistened under the street lights.
"Finally, there you guys are. Got my money?" I smiled at him, tilting my head as he stopped in front of me. His friends pitched in a few dollars to the palm of his hand.
"Just take it, pip squeak." He shoved the wad of dollar bills in my face. I happily obliged, counting out twenty bucks, and handed him the bag of cold medicine. He smiled, lifting up one of the bottles to examine the label.
"What? You got the flavorless kind?" He glared at me with annoyance. I frowned at him.
"Look man- The bottle said Codiene so I grabbed it." I shrugged, shoving my hands into my own pockets.
"But it taste like shit. You should've grabbed the cherry kind." He shook the bottle at me, and I rolled my eyes.
"Oh don't be a pussy-" I snatched it from him and opened it up, taking a big, long couple of chugs. It was disgusting, but it made me a little woozy in only a few short seconds. I shook my head and gave him a playful smile. He couldn't hold back a smirk.
"So you're bein' a show off now, huh?" He raised one of his thick eyebrows at me.
"Hey, it's good stuff- Just gotta add extra jolly ranchers or something..." I smiled as I handed it back. He rolled his eyes and let out a sigh.
"Whatever, shorty. Thanks." He told me.
"Wait, shawty, how old did you say you was?" His friend asked me, crossing his arm.
"Twelve." I shrugged.
"Ey, coz... she old enough to come to the kick back, ain't she?" He turned to the burly boy with the cough syrup in his hands.
"Hey yeah, why don't you ever come with us? I mean, you've been sellin' to us for months now, but you never come through." Zach questioned me.
"Oh... I don't know, I kinda figured you wouldn't want me around." I blushed, lifting my shoulders up bashfully.
"Ey, you aight, Y/n." His friend smiled at me reassuringly.
"Yeah girl, we know you like to get down." His other friend added, making me smile.
"Come with us." Zach said in a voice so low it made me shiver.
"M-my sister needs me at home, fellas... Besides, I'm barely starting puberty, what good would I be at a fifteen-year-old's party besides getting fucked up slightly faster than everyone else." I shrugged again.
