Chapter 20 - Where's Sophie?

LOUIS' POV:

Everything had been a downright mess ever since Sophie found out about Niall. She hadn't spoken a proper word in about a week. An emotionless 'yes' and 'no' escaped her lips every now and then, but that was it. And I never thought I'd say this, but I missed talking to my sister.

About half an hour ago she yelled out that she was going for a walk. Normally Jane would stop her and say no, but after talking with Mitchell, she agreed to let her have some space. So that's what we gave her. Liam and I were sitting on my bed, playing COD in my bedroom. We were both lying on our stomachs as we viciously pressed the buttons and stick on the Playstation control with our eyes glued to the TV screen.

"Hey," Liam paused the game and sat up, "What's the time?" He searched for his phone and I did the same. I unlocked the screen and read that it was five thirty. "It's been half an hour since Sophie left, hasn't it?" He asked.

"It has." I realised.

"Does she normally go for walks that are this long?"

"No, she doesn't."

I began to worry for her. She just hadn't seemed right lately. I don't blame her of course, she has every reason to be upset. It's just that she's been so off and detached from everyone lately and that's not like her. Yeah, she's always been quiet at some points, but never like this.

"Call her." Liam suggested. He pointed to my phone which I had in my hands.

"Good idea." I said. I dialled her number and waited to hear a ringing sound. Suddenly a familiar tune rang through the house and I recognised it straight away - Sophie's ringtone. I climbed up and off the bed and ran straight to her room which was across the hall from mine. As soon as I opened the door, I followed the regular iPhone ringtone to see her phone laying neatly on her desk. "Liam?" I called out.

"Yeah?" He called back.

"Can you check if the car is still out the front?" I asked.

"Sure!" He said and I heard his footsteps as he ran down the stairs. I looked around the room, reassuring myself that everything was fine. I was just overreacting. I heard him run back up and he swung around the door frame, panting a little, "Still there."

Where could she have walked off to? Liam and I made our way downstairs and searched around the house looking for Jane and Mitchell, though they weren't inside. They must be out. When I noticed no one else was home, we took to the streets. I just wanted peace in mind that everything was okay.

After walking as far as possible, an idea clicked in my head. She could've possibly been at Niall's. I took out my phone and began calling his number.

"Hello?" He answered.

"Hey Niall, it's Louis." I hesitated, "Sophie isn't with you by any chance? Is she?"

"No, why?" He asked. I huffed in disappointment.

"She went out for a walk a little over forty minutes ago and she's not home yet. Would you have any idea where she might be?" I asked him. Hoping that my ears were going to get what they wanted to hear.

"No, I don't. Have you checked Zayn's house? They seem to be getting closer lately..." I could almost tell that he was rolling his eyes. It was clear to me, and it was clear to anyone, he was jealous. But now wasn't the time to envy someone else. Not while I was this worried.

"Okay, I'll check. Thanks."

"Lou, wait for me. I'm coming to help. On my way now." The phone call disconnected right away and Liam and I headed home to meet Niall there.
