Chapter 15
SOPHIE'S POV:
I think it had become obvious that Niall and I had to talk. I may be on crutches, but that wasn't going to stop me from going to Niall's and confronting him as soon as I could. I didn't tell Jane that I was going to see Niall and I definitely wasn't going to tell Louis. He was hanging out with Liam today anyway.
"I'm going to the sports-ground up the road!" I called out to Jane, "I want to get used to walking around with crutches." I lied to her.
Jane was writing down some notes on a piece of paper in the dining room when I hopped past in my crutches. She glanced up and placed the pen down beside her. I could tell she was arguing with herself whether she should let me go or not. I would understand if she didn't want me going, but I really needed to do this.
"Um..." She said aloud, "Okay that's fine, but don't be too long." She raised her eyebrows to show her seriousness. I could see that she had doubt that I was telling the truth. But she probably understood that I needed time to myself as a teenage girl. I nodded and thanked her as I hobbled out of the house. Today would end in two ways:
a) I'd make a fool of myself because Niall has no idea what I'm talking about.
b) He feels the same way and we'd live happily ever after.
Though I felt as if 'A' may have been the realistic option. Maybe I didn't feel anything and it was just my body messing with itself. Maybe I just got so attached because Harry had just broken my heart. But I did come to terms that I was over him, so that couldn't be it.
This could be problematic. How was I supposed to drive with a sprained ankle? Jane probably thought I was going to walk there. But Niall's house was further down the road from the sports-ground, so no way in hell was I going to walk there. I got into the car, since Louis left with Liam, and drove straight to Niall's house.
Once I arrived to the small, single storey brick home, I turned off the car and took out my crutches. My ankle was hurting slightly as I had put pressure down on it as I drove, but I was okay. I finally made it to the door step and knocked on the cream coloured door. I had been to this house hundreds of times before.
While I waited for the door to open, I leaned on my crutches and glanced around the porch. Memories practically came flooding back to me. The one step that you took to get onto the porch, Niall slipped on it one time when we were younger. We were playing tag when he was chasing me out of the house. I dodged his fingertips and jumped onto the grass, but as he missed me, he lost his footsteps and brushed the edge of the step, making him fall face first onto the concrete pathway that leads to the porch.
Greg had came out and rushed him inside to put a towel to the blood that was gushing out of his forehead near his hairline. Whenever I see the small scar near the roots of his hair, I'm always reminded by that day.
I snapped out of my flashback when I heard the door begin to open. As it swung back, I saw Greg, Niall's older brother, step into the doorway. Greg was the nicest person I had ever met. Anyone could tell that he cared deeply for Niall and would probably take a bullet for him. I wish I had someone like that. Someday I'll have someone that cares about me that much.
"Oh hey Sophie. How are you?" Greg greeted me. He glanced down at my ankle and frowned.
"Hey Greg. I'm alright. Is Niall home?" I smiled.
"Yeah, come in." He gestured for me to follow and I slowly made my way into the house as he closed the door behind me. It was silent for a second or two before he cupped his hands around his mouth and called out, "Niall! Sophie's here!" He turned back around and smiled. We both made our way into their small, simple lounge room.
Niall appeared from around the corner and made his way towards us. He looked... different. There was something about him that made him appear in a different light. It wasn't the bruises he had up and down his arms, or his hair or clothes, it was just... something. I couldn't put my finger on it for the second.
"Hey Sophie." Niall smiled. I felt awkward. I didn't know if I should give him a hug or shake his hand. I didn't even understand why I was feeling this way. It's never awkward between me and him.
"Hey. I was, uh, just checking on how you're doing." I said genuinely.
"I'm alright." He scanned my crutches and a pitiful look crossed his face, "You need to sit down. Come to my room." He hooked his arm in mine and I said goodbye to Greg and walked with Niall. He wanted me to sit down, in his room, even though we were just in the lounge room.
I made it to Niall's room and sat down on the bed that I've sat on many times before. The same blue and white patterned sheets and pillow. He took a seat opposite me on the wooden chair that was tucked into his brown desk. We sat there for a moment, just taking a breath. It was now or never.
