Dagmar put her bag down on the table her friends were seated at during the hour between their classes. "Hey, Tinder champ". Sarah mentioned and Dagmar gave her friend a glance. "Shut up". She muttered and pulled a chair back to sit down, taking her sandwich packed in tinfoil out of her bag next. "Have you met any cute boys?". Sarah kept on pushing and Dagmar shook her head, taking her Phone in her hand and unlocking the screen. "Sarah!". She snatched her Phone out of Dagmar's hand and she whined. "Come on, give it back". "You're still talking to that fake driver?". Sarah's voice was soft as her eyes glistened when looking over at Dagmar. "You're still being such a nosy bitch?". Dagmar hissed back. "Rude". Sarah mumbled while checking her matches with boys anyway. "This one is cute, you didn't have to be so short in your answers to him! Dagmar, you're not going to find a boyfriend this way". Sarah shook her head.
Dagmar took her Phone back, making sure she hadn't touched her conversation with the catfish. "I don't want a boyfriend". Dagmar replied while putting her water bottle to her lips. "I only want to find out who the catfish is and that's it". She hummed. "I ushered you to download Tinder to get someone nice, not to waste your time on someone who's lying to people". Sarah crossed her arms over her chest while looking at her friend in a judgemental way. "Maybe I like talking to him". She nearly whispered. "You what?". Sarah asked, coming closer to her and Dagmar ignored it. "Confess!". Sarah ushered on and Dagmar looked back at her. "Maybe I like talking to the liar". She replied. "Oh my god". Sarah giggled. "You said it yourself! What if he's really Lando Norris". Dagmar said. "Then I've hit the jackpot because all he does is flirting with me". Dagmar protested.
"I did say that". Sarah remembered and gnawed at her bottom lip, as if she regretted it. "Look, I'm careful, okay? What you do carries the same amount of danger. You could hook up with a killer to and not come back from your one night stand". Dagmar said, as if it was Obvious and could happen any day. "Okay, enough confessions. I'll keep being a hoe and you can keep talking to that impostor". Sarah stated and Dagmar nodded contently. "I have class in a few". Sarah stood up. "I love you". Dagmar drew a heart in the air and Sarah rolled her eyes, yet smiled while taking her stuff and got up from the table. Dagmar was in the canteen alone next, yet she didn't mind it as she opened her laptop and got to the portal of the University to log in and check her assignments for this week. She clicked on a short one she could finish in this hour before her last class of the day started.
Her phone laid next to her while she connected it to her bluetooth headphones and shoved them over her ears. She selected a random playlist and opened a worddocument while splitting the screen to do the reading meanwhile. Dagmar was focussed until her screen lit up and notified her that Lando had send her a message. She wanted to ignore it, get her assignment done before taking a look at it, but she was too curious to wait. She picked up her phone after finishing typing her sentence.
Haven't heard anything from you the whole day. Will start to miss you if you keep it up longer, darling.
Dagmar chuckled slightly at his message. She was sure it was just another line meant to flirt with her and she didn't take it too seriously. She shoved her laptop a bit out of the way so she had the space to put her elbows on the table and type a reply.
I have a thing called school, "Lando". Should've thought about it before you became a professional catfish.
And yet you're still replying to me within a minute.
I have thirty minutes till my class starts.
Nice of you to spend them on me.
Dagmar bit her lip to not laugh out loud in the canteen. She wasn't going to be texting him the rest of the half hour (she was). She really wanted to get it done, yet her mind was absolutely not directed on her assignment and her readings at the moment. It was weird how natural it felt to talk to Lando, to tease and him and to launch her sarcastic thoughts at him that he didn't seemed to be offended by, which she was glad about.
Now stop bothering me, I won't get anything done.
You know, when I was in school, I never studied and still aced the tests.
Barely sufficient isn't something I call 'acing'.
Dagmar herself was a bit of an achiever. She's smart and she studies hard, not taking a simple six out of ten for a test she spend a lot of time working on. She guessed an F1 driver, who dropped out of school didn't se-... An imposter who dropped out of school perhaps as well or just didn't want to do anything for it, probably couldn't see the amount of work she wanted to put into everything.
You're ten times smarter than I am, darling. I'll let you get back to work. Talk later?
She looked at the words that popped up on her screen, reading the question at the end of the sentence. They didn't mean a lot to her (they meant a lot to her). Dagmar swallowed hard, blinking a couple times to get out of her thoughts. Sarah was right, she shouldn't become obsessed with someone who was lying about himself (she should).
Yeah, of course.
Lando's teeth dug into his lower lip when he saw her typing and then her response showed up on his screen. His lips curled upwards slightly while he leaned against his car. He read the message a couple times and then locked his screen, putting his phone in his pocket. He was about to get to the centre of London and spend a day with Carlos and his girlfriend, picking some clothes for the Autosport awards. He wanted to tell Carlos about the fun times he had on the dating app and he kind of wanted to confess about Dagmar, explain that he had matched with a very nice and beautiful girl, however he would totally laugh in his face if Carlos knew that Dagmar didn't think he was real and that he was a catfish. It still amused him, yet he nearly found himself popping the question "hey, do you want to meet up someday?". It was too early. She didn't trust him at all.
He got behind the wheel and drove away from his flat. He was meeting Carlos at the parking garage close to the shops they wanted to visit. Lando wasn't one who whould have fun with shopping, but he guessed he could get through with Isa's advice and Carlos on his side. He needed to look slightly decent at the awards anyway, he sadly couldn't show up in some sweats and his regular McLaren sweater. Lando drove over the busy roads and it took him about twenty minutes to reach the destination where they were supposed to meet. Carlos just got out of his car with Isa while he parked it on the opposite of Carlos' black McLaren. Lando got out, pulling his beanie tighter over his head. "Hey". He grinned at his teammate. "Hi". Isa smiled while her fingers held onto her boyfriend's hand. "You're smiley". Carlos said first. "Hello to you too". Lando teased while bumping his shoulder into his.
"Tell me all about it, we're headed over to my favourite burger restaurant anyway". Carlos grinned now. The three of them went to get lunch at first and Lando looked forward to eat something that was not scheduled for his diet at all. And he was low key eager to tell Carlos and Isa about Dagmar. He felt weird for thinking so much about a girl that he met on a stupid dating app. She felt so far away, yet she was very close at the same time. Carlos sat him down on the opposite of them. "What is this, a hearing?". Lando chuckled when he took his coat off. "Well, you do have something on your face, Lando". Isa softly added with a shy smile. "I booked a holiday to Dubai, okay?". Lando said, shrugging next, looking down at his hands that folded together. "It's not just a holiday, come on. Did you finally get laid?". Lando's eyes widened and a blush showed up on his cheeks.
"No, oh my god". He muttered, glaring at Carlos. "Look, I downloaded Tinder for fun and now I'm actually talking to a nice girl". Lando confessed. "Ahw, I love that". Isa cooed, meanwhile sitting close to Carlos. "But she thinks I'm not really Lando but someone who is using my pictures". Isa's smile sunk and Carlos started to laugh. "It was fun at first, I mean it still is. But now I just wish she wasn't so suspicious. But I'm not ready to meet up with her either, I mean I feel like I don't know her well enough yet". He rambled. "Then just keep talking to her and see if she wants to meet up later". Carlos shrugged. "It's not that easy". Isa protested. "If she's suspicious then you'll need to win her trust first, even if she thinks you're not the real Lando". She added. "Look, that's better advice". Lando glanced back at Carlos, who shrugged again. "I really hope it will work out, Lando". Isa smiled.
Lando nodded with a smile, looking down at his hands and toying with the ring around his finger. Maybe he could get through to her soon, although he loved their conversations.
