My phone is dead, and I've been walking for what seems like nearly an hour. I hold my arms close to my chest to try and keep warm in the cold night, as I freeze in my white crop top. The street is dark around me with only the dim lighting coming from the lamp posts above me. I walk slowly, since I'm such a far walking distance from home, there is no point in me running.
I hear a car engine in the distance slowly approaching me and I begin to feel nervous, hoping it's not Zane or Mel, or anyone else who'll come after me. The car approaches and I watch the driver slowly reveal themselves, Sammy.
"Sammy?" I ask, stepping towards the car. He rolls the window down, a smile on his face.
"I thought you might have needed a lift." Sammy says, "come on, get in."
I run around to the passenger side and get inside the car, feeling the warmth of the heater blasting as soon as I sit down.
"I'm sorry." Sammy suddenly apologises.
"For what?" I ask as he begins to drive down the street.
"For making you play truth or dare. I didn't think it was gonna turn out like that." Sammy says.
"Don't apologise. I didn't think it was going to turn out like that either." I sigh and lean my head back against the head rest.
"Those two always get competitive." Sammy says and chuckles, keeping his eyes on the road.
"What? What do you mean?" I ask Sammy, but he shakes his head.
"Over girls. Like boys do." Sammy says as he makes a right turn down my street. Unsure of how he knows my address, but I don't bother questioning him about it.
"But, why me?" I say as I close my eyes and rub my temples, coming on with a throbbing headache.
"Dunno. They must both have a thing for you." Sammy shrugs, and he pulls up to my house. "Here we are."
"Thank you so much, honestly." I thank Sammy and he smiles.
"No problem. I'm always here, if you need anything." Sammy assures me and gives me a brief goodbye before I step out of the car and head to my house.
I watch Sammy drive off before I walk to the side of the house near where the ladder still stands below my window. I slowly and carefully climb up the ladder until I reach my window, and I gently slide it open. I climb inside and close the window behind me. I feel myself sigh with relief at the comfort of my safe bedroom. I should've stayed in tonight, but Jayden was almost begging me to come to this party. But why? Why did he want me there so bad?
I give up wasting my time thinking about him and Zach, and I begin to take off my makeup, brush my teeth and get into my pyjamas. As soon as I curl up in bed I drift off into sleep.
I dream of Jayden, for the first time ever.
