"Morgan? Morgan?" Mel asks over and over and I snap back to reality. Mel is looking at me while I think of something to say.
"What? Sorry, I am just tired." I say taking a sip of my water bottle. Mel and I sit out on the hockey field on the school grounds. Everyone is in class and no teachers have even bothered to come up to us, so we just sit here waiting for someone to catch us.
"Tell me, something is on your mind. I sense it." Mel says bringing her fingers to her head and she stares at me, widening her eyes.
I sigh, I know how Mel is going to react.
I tell her everything and the whole time her mouth is wide open, obviously shocked at what Zane recently did.
"How long has Zane been doing that to you?" Mel asks.
"That was the first time he has actually hit me." I say quietly, still afraid to talk about it even though I know no one else is around.
Mel gets up from the grass and she hands her hand out to me.
"I'm here for you." Mel says, I grab her hand and pull myself up.
"Since I'm your best friend, I am going to get Zane back. Just for you." Mel smiles, an evil look on her face.
I follow Mel through the hallways and we make to the locker area. I find Zane's locker, obvious enough because of the weird stench of cigarettes.
Mel pushes past me and kicks his locker open. His locker door breaks open with the first kick Mel gives it. Inside his locker lays a small bag of cigarettes, along with the thick choking scent. He has a large rain jacket and a bundle of other clothes. No books, just clothes and cigarettes.
"I've had these foam-spraying things in my bag for the past week, you wait here. I will go get them." Mel says before stepping away from his locker and returning a few seconds later with a bundle of cans.
Mel hands me three large cans and we begin spraying his entire locker. I begin at the bottom of the locker and it fills with wet foam. Mel foams up the top of his locker and soon enough it's filled. I shut his locker before any of the foam spills out. Hoping that no one saw us do this, otherwise we're both in deep shit.
"Let's go wait around the corner. The bell is going to go in three minutes. I want to see his reaction." Mel chimes, dumping the empty cans into the bin beside her. We hide around the corner of the hallway. The bell rings and everyone runs out from the doors. The hallway instantly fills with people and I can barely see Zane's locker.
"I can't see his locker. There are too many people." I mutter to Mel and she whips out her phone and starts recording.
"Come behind me." Mel insists, and I stand behind her and look over her shoulder. Since I'm a little taller than her I can see perfectly.
Zane approaches his locker with his phone pressed against his right ear, obviously talking on the phone. Zane opens his locker and the wet foam spills out, falling over him. Zane shrieks as the foam falls over him, covering him head to toe.
Everyone has stopped walking and is crowding around Zane. No one is there helping him, everyone is just laughing at his despair. Zane runs his hands through his wet hair and he slams his locker door, looking infuriated.
Mel and I sit out on the cold hard plastic chairs, outside the Principal's office, because someone had reported to the principal that they witnessed Mel and I spraying the foam into Zane's locker.
"We are screwed." Mel whispers to me and I nod, defeated.
"Totally screwed." I mumble.
Mel keeps the video on replay and every time Zane opens his locker, she begins to laugh. I feel like slapping her, but that would get me into even more trouble than I'm already in. The principal calls us in and for next half an hour of the principal yelling at us, Mel just looks at her lap and I try to stop myself from laughing. The principal has a shred of carrot sitting on his lip, and it wiggles every time his mouth moves. Mel has obviously noticed since she starts smiling.
"What are you smiling at?! None of this is funny!" The principal shouts and his face turns red.
"Um, sir...." Mel giggles and she stops talking.
"What?!" He shouts.
"Nothing, just keep going back to what you were saying..." Mel says. I can tell Mel didn't want to tell him, since it's the thing that making us giggle right now.
"You girls are suspended, for a week." He announces. I look up at him and Mel doesn't look shocked. I feel my mouth slide open.
"If someone else had done this, you wouldn't of suspended them." Mel argues.
"I would've suspended anybody if they would've done this. You girls are just unlucky since you got caught." He argues back, sitting back down on his chair and rubbing his temples.
"I want an apology note. Mel you will be joining the chess club committee for the rest of the year, and you Morgan. You can do detention for the next two weeks." The principal says, looking stressed and defeated.
"How come I don't get to join the chess club? It might actually be fun!" I shout and Mel snorts.
"Mel needs to be smarter, you on the other hand need to just go to detention." The principal says. "The chess club committee is the hardest working club in the school, she will be in it for the rest of the year. That's three months."
Mel doesn't say anything back, she just sits there and tries her hardest to not laugh. I try to speak but he order's us out of the room, and out of the school.
"I have no idea how to play chess!" Mel whines, over and over again.
"It's better than having detention, for two hours." I reply, swinging my bag over my shoulder.
"No, detention is better. The teacher who runs the detention's usually falls asleep, which means everyone just leaves. He just wakes up and he forgets what he was doing. No big deal." Mel says but I still hate the fact that I have landed myself in detention. This is only the third time since I've ever been in detention.
"Well, good luck in detention." Mel utters, rolling her eyes.
"Good luck developing your chest skills." I say and Mel snorts, pushing me lightly.
"Oh, I will enjoy it." Mel jokes, grabbing her phone and beginning to text someone. Mel and I part ways, wishing each other the best of luck with our new misfortunes.
