Ryan and I walked a bit until the familiar forest scent changed immediately. We reached the pack territory line. However, what was set before us was definitely was not what we had expected. It was just a clearing. There were no houses, no condos, not even a single tent.

"Are you sure we're in the right pack? Or even in a pack at all?" Ryan asked, looking around.

I nodded, so sure of myself. "It is. You probably noticed it yourself, the scent changed. Maybe I should call for Ariella." I was about to whistle for her when he pushed my fingers away from my mouth.

"No, wait. I know what's going on. I've seen it before. There's a protection spell. You can't see the actual pack. This Alpha is more clever than we realized."

I looked at him, surprised. "You've seen it before?" He walked away, "My father practiced dark magic," without giving me any more information. Ryan put his hand out and a vibration appeared in front of us.

"Get ready." He grabbed my hand.

"Ready?? Ready for what?!" I panicked as he pulled me along as we started to run into the invisible wall. We crashed through and landed on the ground to the appearing miles of houses that lay before us.

I rubbed my forehead and gasped. "How did you do that?" He shrugged. "What about Ariel?"

"She's a vampire, that's only meant for werewolves."

"Oh yeah, I mean obviously," I said sarcastically. "Now, we find that freaking smart Alpha."

He chuckled. "I don't think that'll be very hard." He pointed to a huge dark castle, looming over the little cottage-like houses.

"Then let's get this over with." I sighed, as we walked the distance to the creepy building. I could see it had a medieval-like structure to it. Tall gray walls rose up and were covered with slim round towers. There were many statues of horses and soldiers, encasing the memories of the past in them. A huge gate was opened in front of us, inviting, but also not inviting, to the passersby.

Ryan ran a hand through his dirty blonde locks then glanced at me. "I know West won't like this at all and I'm fully aware of the punishment I'll get later, but to act like mates, let's hold hands. You have to completely act like a different person, Isla. Got it?"

"Okay. Oh, and don't worry, I won't tell him." I laughed and slipped my fingers into his palm. But I knew somehow, my mate would find out sooner or later. "Isn't it strange? All other packs had warriors or guards lining the territory lines. Something weird is going on. I'm getting chills."

He nodded. "I promised my Alpha I'd protect you. I'm not giving up. Whatever is waiting for us...we'll be ready."

We walked inside; there was nothing. Just as we had seen in the clearing, there were no items, no furniture, not even a candle. It was completely black. It was also the same thing in the village, there were no wolves about. He turned on his phone flashlight and we started to walk.

"I agree, something's definitely not right," Ryan said as we wandered around for a while.

"Look! We were here at the same place we were five minutes ago." I gasped. Before, I noticed a mouse house in the cracks of the right dark wall. "I'm sure of it."

He slumped down and leaned on the wall. "That's it. We're toast. This freaking castle is like a dang maze."

"Wait...listen." My ears perked up to the faint sound coming from below. It sounded like a girl singing.

Ryan kneeled and looked in between the stone tiles of the floor. Little light was peering vaguely up through the cracks. "It's like a basement of some sort. But how will we get through? There are no stairs or anything."

"Only one thing to do." I pulled off my leather jacket and took off my boots. "If you can see through the tiles that means they are only flat slabs. They aren't thick enough. Humans may not be able to dig in between it--"

"But wolves can," Ryan smirked and took off only the outer layer of his clothing. We shifted and his wolf was also daringly beautiful too. He had gray fur mixed with auburn highlights. His eyes were a rare color of green, not common to wolves.

Since we weren't connected, I pawed the areas where I would dig and the places he would. All we needed was to make one stone fall and we could jump in together.

"This adventure is getting crazier. I can't believe we have to work to meet an Alpha." Felicia huffed.

"Like this isn't any different from the last couple we met. Our valley is crazy."

She continued to dig, brown soil getting into our fur, but it felt good to be in our wolf selves since we hadn't been for a really long time. I could also feel the longing to run with West again, just like we did with Chase and Mila.

Mila.

Chase.

I hoped they were all right. Jennalyn would have mind-linked me if West's Pack, or any pack, attacked us. But I think everyone was too busy preparing for the war. Suddenly, the stone fell down, bright beams of light shining in our eyes.

A high pitched scream filled our ears, making us want to rip them out. Curse the great but also terrible hearing we had. I jumped in, Ryan behind me to stop the screaming. A teenager stood before us in a corner. She was breathtakingly beautiful with tanned skin, short brown wavy hair and blue eyes.

"What the he--stay away!" I couldn't even take a breath before she started to throw books at me. We dodged them until the Delta was hit by one on the head and fell down. I shifted quickly into my human form and grabbed the curtain that was nearby to cover myself.

"Wait! Wait...we're not here to hurt you. My name is Isla...what's your name?"

She breathed heavily and looked at me for a while until she responded quietly, "My name is Lacey."

I took a sigh, knowing that she wouldn't hurt us anymore. "We won't harm you. We just want to know who the Alpha is, so we can speak to him."

"Alpha?" She looked as if she had no idea what that was.

"Yes...you're a werewolf too, I can sense it. You must know."

Lacey bit her lip then quickly grabbed a statue and swung it at me, making me collapse on the rug. "I know," is all that I heard before I blacked out.
