"I could feel you, you know," West said. We were still in the Alpha's room as Mallory, Ryan, and Ariel were interrogating the beast. "It's as if...your heart was calling out to me."
I stayed in his arms and pulled him closer. "I was. I was trying to reach you, in case something bad happened."
"Well, I'm glad you did. If you hadn't, we probably wouldn't have reached you in time. Your heart calls led us right to the door." He kissed my forehead. "It's amazing that we aren't even mated yet but I can feel you so strongly."
My lips curled up in a smile. It was indeed amazing. Before mates mated, they would only feel just a small pull, of course, a connection, but it wouldn't be strong. Once they did, they would have a pull for life. We barely did anything, except--
"Um, West?"
"Hm?"
"Do you think the kiss made us stronger together? We can feel our connection more?"
He sighed and looked at me, chuckling. "Nowadays, I don't find anything weird compared to what I've seen since I met you. However, this dress though..." His eyes darkened a bit and leaned closer.
I put my hand in front of his face, walking away. "Don't even think about it."
"It's my wolf!!"
"Excuses, excuses." I laughed quietly.
"Alpha Isla?" A sudden mind-link came through from Jennalyn.
"Hey! How's the pack? Everything good?" I went back to the box to change into clothes Mallory handed me.
"Pack-wise, yes. Mila-wise, no..."
That got my attention. I stopped trying to shove myself into jeans at that thought. "What happened??" Mila must've done something. She was so gonna get it later. That kid was literally made for trouble.
"Isla...Mila was poisoned. The poison was meant for you, the man who did it didn't know you had left and she consumed it accidentally."
I stared at myself in the mirror, dropping the jeans. Everything that I thought was well was slowly breaking apart. My little sister, Mila. "How long has she been in the hospital?? You did bring her to Bella right??"
"Please don't be upset, I only kept this from you for the sake of the pack, but it's been three days."
I growled loudly, punching the wall. "WHAT THE ACTUAL HECK?! BETA JENNALYN THIS IS MY FAMILY. SHE'S A CHILD."
"I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to, I did this--"
"Shut up, I'm going there now."
Mallory opened the door quickly. "Is everything okay?"
"No, everything is not okay!" My blood was boiling with anger. I always tried to control my temper because I was known that, when I got mad, I would tear away anything in my path before cooling down. "We're leaving back to our pack! Ariella, Ryan, you will stay here until we get the South on our side. I don't care what you do to make them behave. Mallory, West, you're going with me."
"I should go with Mal though--" Ryan started.
"NO. You can be separated for a couple of days, heck, you two aren't mates for crying out loud. Learn to face responsibility. You came on this trip and you will follow my orders." I didn't care what was spewing out of my mouth. I needed to get to my Mila.
After deciding that Ariel and Ryan would stay and keep the car, Mallory, West and I shifted into our wolves. We sped through the forest, our paws hitting the wet dirt, leaves flying in different directions. The scenery didn't impress me, though. I was only focused on one thing.
"Our Beta deserves a fatal punishment," Felicia growled, trying to go faster than our normal speed limit. Mal was slowly falling behind but she understood the pain I was feeling in my heart. My siblings were the only thing that got me through the day, through the abuse my mother put me through.
Chase and Mila were half-siblings. They were the children of that dang vile Rose whatcha-ma-call it Pack. I didn't care. When I first held Chase, this tiny little pup in my arms, I swore I would protect him, the same as with Mila. I would protect them from the enemies outside that loathed our pack. I loved them.
I howled loudly since we were five minutes away from my beloved Sunshine Pack that I called home. I ran faster and saw our warrior guard waving at me, catching my attention.
"She's at the doctor's, Alpha Isla. Everyone is waiting for you!" Olivia said, hurriedly. I dashed past her, only listening to the vital information. We arrived at our destination and our eyes grew wide at the number of wolves that were there.
It was always a custom, whenever a member of a pack was near-death or had passed away, we in our wolf-selves would get in a full circle around them and howl at the sun. This was exactly what they were doing to the little girl in the middle. Though I felt a drop of gratitude, I also felt anger. She was not dead yet.
They moved aside for me as I shifted, one of them putting a blanket over my body, as I held pale Mila in my arms. Her face was pure white and her brown locks drooped over her forehead. I brushed them away as I started to cry, my tears falling on her pretty blue dress that she was so proud of when Jenna had bought it for her a couple of months ago.
"There must be something you can do," I begged. "Please. She's my little sister." I whispered to Bella who was in her human form, looking extremely forlorn.
She shook her head. "I can't...I tried taking the toxins out...but with only my medical experience and since she's just a child...please forgive me Alpha Isla." Bella bowed to the ground.
My little sister. I should've played with her more. She only wanted my attention that she couldn't get from her mother. This was all she asked for. Yet, I pushed my Mila away.
"Isla..." Mallory's voice cut in, quietly.
"What is it? Can't you see I'm devastated right now? Leave me alone."
She leaned down and put a hand on my shoulder. "I can help you. I can heal Mila."
I sucked in a breath and held the little girl tighter. "Well, I-I know you've been having all these powers lately...but this is my sister."
"Trust me." That's all it took. Something in her emerald eyes told me that something amazing was about to happen. I slowly handed Mila to her on her lap. Mallory put her hands on Mila's body, closing her eyes. All at once, her eyes became that flashing white once again and her curls flew in different directions.
It became quiet.
Everything stopped.
Everyone looked at each other, not knowing what had happened.
Mila sat up, yawning and rubbing her eyes with her little hands. "Oh! Isla you're back! You need to finish my coloring paper with you!" She squealed, jumping on me.
The pack began to howl in joy and yip happily at the hyper girl. My heart skipped a beat and I laughed with joy, tears streaming down my face. "Of course baby, I'll draw with you. All the time." I scooped her up and squeezed her tight, never wanting to let her go, ever again.
