'i hope you have a pleesent day.' chaeryeong reads.

'pleasant.' lia corrects her.

'i'm gonna flunk.'

'no you're not. let's keep practicing.'

it was chaeryeong's turn for her english presentation, paired with lia. ryujin was spooning her lunch, picking out the veggies and taking out the dessert.

'what are you doing?' i ask.

'i'm on a diet.'

'you're already slim, ryujin.'

'shut up.' she sticks her tounge out.

yeji takes a seat next to me, looking frustrated. ryujin notices her mood, looking at me for confirmation.

'time of month?' she asks.

'no. the academy i applied for is full. i already made reservations and everything but i still didn't get in.'

'tough luck.' ryujin mumbles, bread in her mouth.

'looking at you makes me even more anxious about senior years.'

yeji had deeper eyebags hanging from the bottom of her eyes. pimples on her forehead and her eyes were barely open.

'thanks for the encouragement, yuna.' she chuckles, hiding the pain.

'you'll get in to othe academies, unnie. you're a genius!' chaeryeong says.

'thanks.'

yeji sat with us for the whole lunch, which is something that doesn't happen often, since she often skips meals to study. i was about to return the tray when a hand tapped my shoulder.

wonyoung had her hand on my shoulder, her usual daily makeup glimmering in the sunlight. she had a blank, almost hiding guilt expression all spread all over her face.

'can we talk?'

chaeryeong and lia looked at me, suspicious. i shrugged and turnt back to wonyoung.

'yeah.'

i got up and she took me to the rooftop, where she offered me a can of soda, in which i politely declined.

she leads me to the bench, and i settle on it, taking my seat right next to her. wonyoung's face hasn't changed a bit, it reminded me of when we were best friends.

'yuna. you said it before. we're best friends, right?'

she flashes me a smile. i didn't know how to react, and so i stared at my feet.

'remember this?'

wonyoung reaches for her pocket, taking out a black jewelry box. she held it and showed it to me.

'give it back to hueningkai for me. he'll understand. but, yuna, can you promise me you'll never left him know about our meetup?
