[author's p.o.v.]"it's time to get up." grandad whispered into hueningkai's ear.
in an instant, the boy shot up from bed, alarmed from the whisper. "don't scare me like that!" hueningkai exclaimed. grandad crossed his arms, smirking at the younger boy. "geez, man up. anyways, i'm only waking you up for the community service. i don't want to go either, so get up."
grandad left the room, and hueningkai lazily went to the bathroom and got ready. it was almost an annual sort of thing for the family, and this time, hueningkai was chosen to attend other than lea. lea was visibly pleased upon hearing the news, and continued to mock hueningkai throughout the day.
hueningkai simply wore a white tee and jeans, having no effort to dress up. the two ate breakfast in a hurry, before leaving the house, making their way to the park. they were a little late, but the other elders were extremely polite, letting the weight lift off hueningkai's shoulders.
"daehyun! i haven't seen you for ages, how are you?" a woman with a pink blazer greets. she looked exceptionally radiant despite her age, and her voice was softly spoken. "doing great. bitna, this is my grandson," grandad said.
"good morning, ms. yang." hueningkai bowed.
"well, he is quite handsome. not as much as my grandson, however." she chuckled. "he clearly got it from me." grandad responded back. "aish, stop talking nonsense. c'mon, it's starting."
the elders and hueningkai cleaned up the shore right next to the park. there wasn't anyone around his age, but he had a good time being able to pick up trash with the college students that volunteered. hueningkai was able to successfully get a breath of fresh air after isolating in his room for so long. the best part from this was most probably the tteokbokki ms. gwon made for their hard work.
not long after, they moved to the streets, sweeping and cleaning the pavements. the college students and hueningkai ended up in an intersection, so the eldest assigned where they all would clean up.
"i'll go this way." hueningkai pointed at the right, nearer to the main street. "fine with me." the eldest replied. hueningkai held a bucket filled with a water and a mop, and went along each entrance of the buildings to clean the floor. his body started to become tired, but he pushed himself to visit every building.
hueningkai ended up in sm dance academy , one of the most prestigious dance schools in the country. hueningkai went inside, asking permission from the receptionist, in which she agreed without hesitation. he placed the bucket down, and started mopping.
the glass door from one of the practice rooms swung open, and jisung walked out, a small towel on his neck as he walked towards the water dispenser. his eyes laid on hueningkai, who was awkwardly mopping the floor of the lobby.
"kai? what are you doing here?" jisung's voice went noticed by hueningkai.
hueningkai perked up, seeing the older boy drip in sweat. he's seen him like that once, but this time, jisung look worn out, but a smile was still plastered on his face. "i'm doing community service with my grandpa. i didn't know you went to such a school!"
"oh~ not a lot know that i go here. this must be a suprise for you." jisung says. "i've seen you dance before. i don't think it's a suprise."
all the compliments was a coverup for his curiosity. he caught up with all the talk going around, about jisung liking yuna, almost every single rumor. he didn't know why he was peeping in someone's business, but yuna was involved, so he was desperate to know.
seeing them talk under their breath during classes made him gag. his heartbeat felt uneasy whenever they walked with each other in between periods, and he was well informed that he often gives her rides with his bicycle. he wasn't living under a rock.
hueningkai sat next to jisung once he finished. jisung drank his water throughoutly, and hueningkai asked himself a million times, repeating the same question in his mind.
"hyung, i'm gonna be out of the line for saying this, but do you like yuna?"
a silence filled the air, regret overwhelming hueningkai. should he have said that? he was awfully curious, and he felt a need to know.
"hueningkai, hueningkai~ when did you start to gossip?" jisung chuckled. "however, yes, it is true." a tint of pink was seen on his fluffy cheeks, but he said without hesitation.
hueningkai expected him to panic, but he was taken back that he seemed calm and restrained. he knew the older boy was known for his cool personality, but he never acknowledged he could be so relaxed.
"why? are you jealous, kai?"
"huh?"
now hueningkai was flustered. his plan completely backfired, and he struggled to find words to cover him up. "it's not like that, hyung-"
"you're in love with her, aren't you? it's childish, really."
was it meant to offend? it could be taken in alot of ways, but he couldn't help but feel upset from jisung's behavior. "so?" he replied back, quietly.
"she doesn't like guys who don't give back her love. she doesn't like guys who leave her on read for days. she doesn't like guys who never notice her feelings." jisung said.
the boy thought back to the times he never took her seriously, and he resented not being able to me mutual with her. he felt like the villian here, because jisung was right.
"alright. i'll be leaving," jisung says, "it was nice to talk to you." he stood up from the seat. he walked towards the glass door, but for the last time, jisung looked into the other boy's eyes.
"oh, and i'm taking her out for prom, so try not to do anything that gets in the way." he smiled, before returning to the practice room.
