Chapter 23

Angel

“If I see your hands all over my sister I will kick your ass,” I growled my warning to Rick, “This is not some stupid club . . . this is a royal ball. My sister is a royal and she deserves to be treated as such . . . You will be respectful tonight. Got it, Richard?”

“Yeah, yeah, Angel, calm down,” He tone was calm, but he looked nervous.

“Nicky, you agree with me right?” I turned to Nicky.

“Yeah, I would like to see you drop everything in the middle of the ball and start kicking Rick’s ass . . . Mom would flip a shit,” Nicky laughed.

I couldn’t help but laugh also.

“I could only imagine the terrified look on her face as everyone looked on at the screw up of the royal family,” Rick laughed.

“At least I would be able to kick someone’s ass. I feel like I want to strangle Gabriel every time I see him,” I grumbled.

“You should,” Rick laughed.

“Wow,” Nicky breathed looking amazed.

“What are you going on about?” Rick laughed and then turned around. His smile dropped, along with his jaw.

Confused by both of their reactions I turned around and looked up the stairs to see Aqua looking gorgeous. I couldn’t have picture her better in my wildest dreams.

The way she looked down at me with a slight hint of a smile caused me to want to run to her and take her in my arms and take her away from the rest of the world to be mine and mine alone.

“Wow, Faith you look amazing,” Rick breathed and broke me from my trance.

“You too,” She stepped into his arms.

“Angel, you are so cleaned up and proper,” Aqua teased as I held out my arm for her to grab.

“You look beautiful,” I couldn’t tease now. I was so shocked by her natural beauty, so shocked by her happiness and so shocked by her choice to be with me.

“Thank you,” She returned my smile.

Suddenly my smile fell as we approached the ballroom doors. She looked so beautiful and we were walking into a ballroom full of cocky vampires that will quickly to move to the most beautiful girl in the room. That was clearly going to be my Aqua. I would have to watch her so carefully tonight. I didn’t want a single man laying a hand on her tonight.

“What is it?” She asked seriously looking around for something to explain my sudden drop in mood.

“It’s not a good thing you look even more perfect than usual,” I grumbled. “Now I will have to keep and extra close watch on you so you don’t get hit on by every male with in a two foot radius.” I looked up and around also

“I am going to ignore your constant downer of an attitude and take that as a compliment,” She smirked.

I attempted and failed to hide a smile. She always made me so happy and I couldn’t help but show it.

“Oh come on, Angel, I know you want to smile,” She poked at my lips.

“Cut it, brat,” I tried miserably not to smile.

“Smile, Angel,” She demanded teasingly.

“Hey, cut it out,” Gabriel grumbled. “Can you two be serious for two seconds?” He stepped in front of us. God damn, his presence annoyed me and then he had to open his mouth and make it ten times worse. I knew I was not going to make through tonight without attacking him. I was holding on to Aqua to keep me grounded.
