stumbling on her bed, flustered as ever.
getting fired from another job wasn't new for jade, actually it had become daily.
looking out her window, a couple had moved in not too long ago.

she had remembered coming across them once or twice. jade got up and went outside to greet her new neighbors. knocking on their front door, she stood there smiling.
"hello." a tall man with messy black hair and round glasses opened the door, he had a little girl in his arms that looked like him.

"hey, i'm jade latrell i just saw that you guys just moved in." she smiled and the man furrowed his eyebrows.
"your point is?" jade cleared her throat and smiled once again.
"i was wondering if you needed any help, like moving stuff around. a babysitter?"

this caught the man's attention,
"come in."
jade walked inside of their beautiful home and sat down on the couch.
"how much do you want?" the man asked.

"i don't really mind, i mean i am-"
"i'll start off with five hundred." her eyes bulged out of their sockets.
putting the child down, the man took a seat not too far away from jade.
"i really can't take that mr..."
"arreaga but call me brandon, i insist. i've seen you come home from fired jobs so let me help you as you help my wife and i with emma."
he smiled.

emma heard her name and came running over, "yes papa?" she said smiling.
"oh we were talking about you love, emma say hi to jade."

the little girl ran up to jade, "hi i'm emma i'm six years old! you're so pretty."
the little girl touched jade's hair.
"oh i'm jade, emma you're so beautiful probably more than i am. i think we're going to be best friends." they held their pinkies together.

"great, you can start today." brandon smiled.
"i want to show you all my barbies."
emma ran to her playroom with jade following.

                         •           •          •

the two played barbies until emma yawned,
"i'm tired." she let out.
jade carried her and walked upstairs to tuck her in bed for her nap.
"will you come back tomorrow?" her eyes glistened.

"yea of course." jade smiled tucking a piece of emma's hair behind her ear.
emma had soon fell asleep, jade got up and left closing the door slowly behind her.

"you're really good with kids." brandon said, startling her.
"yea, i have experience." she chuckled.
"you're coming back tomorrow right? my wife and i both might be out, she works full time and i might be going to multiple meetings. i'll give you my number and a spare key."
brandon said as they walked down the stairs.

"you seem different than other dads may be like." jade thought out loud.
"what do you mean?" brandon turned to her.
"nothing, i mean i just had a very different childhood than emma's."

"so did i," he admitted.
"i want to give her the best life so she can have a memorable childhood."
this took jade away, "wow. you're a good father."

"how old are you." he patted her back.
"nineteen."
"really, you look so much older."
"is that supposed to be compliment? because i get that a lot." she chuckled causing brandon to smile.

"bye jade." he handed her a check.
"mr. arreaga i can't take this."
"you deserve it." he put it in her hands and lead her out of the house.

"thanks, i'll be back tomorrow." she smiled.
