"mommy-" emma cheered as she ran through the door, only to be cut off by jade telling her to be quiet.
"i'm on the phone em, i'm sorry."

jade went upstairs to her and brandon's bedroom, continuing the phone call with her mother.
she heard a lot of commotion downstairs, so she closed the door.

"mom, you're not speaking clearly." she said.
"i'm asking for you just to pay a visit, my birthday is in a few days you know."
her mother sing songed, causing jade to let out a little laugh.

"i'll see if i can book a flight, i'm sure there'll be one tonight or tomorrow."
"i'm already looking at dates, there's plenty sweetheart."
"you're getting too excited again, mom."

"oh hush, i haven't seen you in ages. i have to go your father is calling me, you know how he is. bye jade."
before jade could reply, her mother had already hung up.

she walked downstairs, while looking for plane tickets and when she looked up her heart felt like it had dropped to her stomach.
lynn was pulling brandon in for a kiss, she covered her mouth with her hands and left out the back door to her house.

i thought he didn't want a cheater.

jade didn't know what to do or who to call, her tears streaming down her cheeks.
she dialed one number and hoped that they'd pick up,  "hello? jade?"

"can you please come over to my house, i-i can't b-brandon."
jade was barely forming words, he could clearly tell she was crying.
"i'll be over soon jade, don't worry."

twenty minutes or so go by, she then heard frantic knocks on the door.
"nick." she cried, opening the door.
he engulfed her in his arms, letting her cry.
even though nick doesn't know her well, doesn't mean he still cares about her.

"can you calm down and tell me what happened? do you need a glass of water?"
she nodded, with a blank look on her face.
nick came back with the glass in his hands, wiping away her tears. jade took a deep breath and sighed, trying her best to keep calm.

"i was on the phone with my mom upstairs and she was asking for me to visit. when i finished talking to my mom, i walked downstairs and saw lynn pulling brandon in for a kiss."

"did you see his reaction?"
"my vision became blurry with tears, so no."
"were you going to take brandon on this trip to see your mom?" she nodded in response.

"look, i'll come. i'll come just to be your company, take a break from brandon for a bit."
"okay, thank you." she hugged nick.
"you just relax, i'll book everything. i'll pack for you, whatever you need me to do."

"nick, stop. i'm okay."
"all you need right now is a friend, i'm trying my best to be that for you." he smiled.
