jade's father had planned a surprise for her mom's birthday.
"okay step by step." nick said, to both jade and her mom.
the two were blindfolded, walking into god knows where.
"okay, are you ready?" jade's dad, asked.

"i'm nervous, is it bad?" jade replied.
"don't scare me like that!" her mom then said, making sure she's still stepping on ground.
"okay take them off!" nick cheered.
the sunset came to view, jade looked at the view in awe, the balcony was very spacious and well decorated.

"isn't this sweet, thank you baby." jade cringed watching her parents in love.
nick then elbowed her, she gave him a look.
"my lady." he said, directing her to a chair next to her mom.
"nick, dad. this is so beautiful, especially since i haven't been on this deck since high school."

she hugged nick with a big smile across her face, nick was taken by surprise but hugged her back. as they pulled away, nick noticed she wasn't wearing the necklaces brandon had given her.
they took their seats and started eating what her dad and nick prepared, nick couldn't take his attention off of jade.

as the night fell, he was pretty much zoning out of every conversation. his thoughts getting interrupted from time to time.
"nick?" jade's dad said.
"huh?" he shook his head.
jade leaned over and lightly whispered, "they're asking if you want to go back inside for dessert."

"oh no, i'm good out here. the view is beautiful." he lied.
"okay, see you two. have a safe flight tomorrow."
her mom smiled, blowing a kiss to jade.
once they walked away, jade slapped nick's chest.
"what is wrong with you? are you okay? you haven't spoken to me ever since we left the grocery store."

he looked back at her blankly, his eyes trailed her up and down. jade scoffed, playing with the scrunchie on her wrist.
nick couldn't seem to form words, he had this weird uneasy feeling.
"nick." she said, scooting her chair closer to him.

his eyes locked with hers, she finally knew.
she knew what was wrong, but couldn't open her mouth to say anything else.
nick leaned in and placed his soft lips on her plump ones, scared of what was going to happen next.
jade found herself kissing back and this warm feeling took over her body.

she pulled away fairly quickly, placing her head in her hands.
"i-i." nick couldn't say anything.
"no, please don't. goodnight."
she got up and was almost running away, the way she replied.
it sounded as if she was crying.

nick picked up the two plates left on the table and brought them to the sink.
he looked over at the dining table where jade's parents were enjoying their time together then he made his way upstairs.
hesitant, he opened the door to jade's room.

she wasn't around, he sighed.
changing out of his clothes and flopping onto the bed.
he left a little space for jade before shutting his eyes closed.

the ruckus in the room woke nick up, it was jade. she was fixing up her suitcase, getting ready for their early flight back to la.
the two didn't greet each other good morning, only finishing packing.

nick couldn't stop looking at jade, like a high school boy adoring his crush.
though it wasn't like that, he just wanted to know what she was thinking.
"ready?" she asked blankly.
nick just nodded, as they walked down the stairs.

he held out his hand towards her, silently asking her for her suitcase.
she handed it to him and nick carried it to their rental, as she locked the front door of her parents house.
the entire car ride things were silent, even at the airport things were so silent.

"when does our flight board?" he tried to make a small conversation.
"in two hours."
"look, jade i don't know what's your prob-"
he was interrupted by jade placing her lips on his and he had kissed back.

his hands wrapped around her waist and she pulled away, with a glum look on her face.
"look, i know what you're thinking. i like you nick, a lot but i don't want to make this go the wrong way."
nick was taken by surprise and was in disbelief, he took his hands off of her.

"so you leave me like this?"
"i know, this is bad but i fell in love with brandon. nick i have never felt this way about someone, you're very near and dear to my heart but brandon is too."
nick's expression changed to sadness, he didn't know how to reply.

"so, this is just going to be about brandon? not about me or how i felt? we had a connection, i felt like i was falling in love with you."
"nick, we met because of brandon. everything right now is because of brandon."
"it's just always brandon, huh."
nick said with no emotion, his voice trailed off.

nick got up and walked away from jade, she didn't have the energy to go after him.
she knew he'd come back but not when, her stomach had felt empty.
her heart hurt and her breathing was very slow.
