Two huge results for Liverpool today.

The Women played relegation opposition Bristol City and won 1-0. Furness at 13 minutes put the ball in the net after a handball shout and a penalty saved, plus the second save gives us our first 3 points and takes us out of the relegation zone on goal difference. They kept saying Liverpool scored 4 all season, they could've done that maybe today. They play Birmingham City next in the league who are the next team up in the table, it's time to start climbing.

Burnley's men also beat Leicester including a penalty save, while Crystal Palace held City to a draw. Pepe Reina is back in the PL and now plays for Aston Villa.

Liverpool, Man United, the biggest, fiercest rivalry, except it's not been that for ages. They're more like a bogey team as of late. Where have these teams been all my life?!

The sky was an interesting shade of blues and reds as the sun set over Anfield.

Liverpool didn't start well, kicking the ball out of play a few times and hurried out of their stride and poor crosses.

Gini Wijnaldum takes a whack in the face from Matic's high boot. Free-kick to Liverpool as the Man Utd midfielder goes in the book. Mane's header was wide.

The goal came and it's as simple as they come for Liverpool. Trent's corner swung in and Van Dijk gets above Maguire to nod into the back of the net. He brushed past everyone.

Van Dijk was almost straight in again from another free-kick.

What a finish that is from Roberto Firmino! It's his first at Anfield this season and what a time to get it! Van Dijk jumped with De Gea, United failed to clear, expecting the whistle to be blown, Firmino gets possession and curls one past the United keeper. However, VAR. They decided it was a foul on De Gea. I wasn't surprised after the Crystal Palace goal getting chalked off for much less than that but the ref couldn't have been in a better position so how can it be clear and obvious that he missed it when he clearly saw it and let it go on? De Gea got booked for his protests.

Gini Wijnaldum thinks he's made it 2-0 but he's offside. It wasn't quite a VAR one since the linesman called it first but I thought we were LiVARpool, what's going on?

Wan-Bissaka reaches a ball over the top before Perreira slides in to send to wide. Alisson holds on from Pereira and then De Gea makes an excellent stop to keep out Mane.

Salah totally miss-kicks Robertson's cross and United are off the hook again!

Henderson's excellent drive clangs the post. Thought it was in until I saw it flying back off the post!

Mane feeds off Wijnaldum's through ball before slipping at the vital moment. Wijnaldum sent Maguire for the Echo there on the halfway line.

Lallana replaced Oxlade-Chamberlain. He wasn't happy to be off.

Alisson forced into action as he punches one away from Fred on the edge of the box. Not the most convincing but it stopped it, at least.

Shaw booked for pulling back Salah.

Origi and Fabinho came on for Mane and Firmino. Huge to see Fabinho back. I didn't think he'd come back in this game unless it was a little more secure.

A late corner for United after a good tackle from Henderson. De Gea wants to go uu, doesn't seem to be allowed so is a bit out of place. The corner comes to nothing, that is until Alisson throws it Salah's way. He goes up the other end and scores. He takes his shirt off and that's one worthy yellow- naughty boy!

Alisson legs the length of the pitch to celebrate with Salah. Reina/N'Gog eat your hearts out. What a moment, an assist from the goalie and he's the one who gets there first to celebrate somehow. He ran 16 mph and did a massive knee slide to get there, could he be any cooler?!

That's it, 16 points clear and "now you're gonna believe us, we're gonna win the league" gets sung. We've been so careful not to sing it, maybe it is time. Dad's been counting down the matches, no one's going to be happy until it's in our hands but we have to enjoy it too.

Next up Wolves, away, Thursday 23rd Janurary 2020, 20:00.

They've proved tough against City and others many times, these are the ones to worry about.
