In your face FA! Is it still disrespecting your precious cup if the young ones win?
The FA tried to stop the whole world from watching it by pulling all TV rights but we still managed to watch it, just about. It had no clock/ scoreboard so that was disorientating but better than missing it and I couldn't clock watch.
Kick off got delayed until 8pm because of traveling fans and an unrelated traffic accident, that was the plus to cutting it off of the telly.
There was no surprise seniors (apart from Milner watching), only four of Liverpool's starting XI against Shrewsbury were not born in the 2000s. Liverpool's youngest ever senior team. Curtis Jones was named the youngest ever Liverpool captain tonight. What an experience for them?
Liverpool did really, really well. They had pretty much all of the ball and Kelleher hardly got a to be seen because they pegged Shrewsbury back and got chances but they weren't quite taken.
Free-kick in a dangerous position just outside the box but Jones' effort is saved well by O'Leary.
Nice play from the Reds and Lewis collects the ball 25 yards out. His low left-footed effort goes wide.
Brilliant mazy run from Williams and a low drive across goal from the right side of the box. His effort goes JUST wide.
Another effort from Williams but his close-range effort is blocked well. After the resulting tackle, Williams is given a yellow card.
The second half wasn't so good. Shrewsbury started getting into the game. Liverpool had a succession of corners but not much came of them.
First chance of the second half as Williams' volley goes over the bar.
Nice passing between Jones and Elliott before Curtis fires goalwards from distance. His effort is saved.
GREAT SAVE! Nice move from the Reds and a clever dummy means the ball reaches Williams. Neco's effort is saved.
Shrewsbury scored but LiVARpool had it chalked off for offside. It's not right to have VAR in one leg and not another but I'll take it.
Liverpool respond well. Great first-time cross from Lewis and Elliott goes close with a header.
Brilliant volleyed first-time ball from Chirivella and Jones just misses his strike. He cuts back onto his left foot and goes close, after a deflection.
A long searching ball from the reds' Neco Williams and RoShaun Williams heads past his own 'keeper. The Reds take the lead!! Okay, this time I'll celebrate an OG.
Hardy replaces Millar - for Liverpool.
Liverpool get everyone back for a Shrewsbury long throw, boot it clear only for Max O'Leary to boot it back upfield.
Edwards goes through the back of Jones. Anything to take the sting out of the game and let Liverpool see this out.
Corner to Shrewsbury as Hoever clears a low cross behind. Liverpool should break for the second but Elliott overhits the pass to Hardy who was completely clear. O'Leary races out to clear it. Dad reckons Elliot handballed so it was good that it didn't quite work out - not sure how he saw that.
4 minutes added.
Morgan Boyes on for Leighton Clarkson - Liverpool.
Kelleher gathers a cross then takes his time to clear.
The boys channel their inner James Milners and work hard to keep it in the corners, managing brilliantly to see out the game.
58% possession, 12 shots - 4 on target, 14 corners, only allowing Shrewsbury 42%, 3 shots - none on target and 3 corners. What a bunch of stats!
Critchley! Critchley! Critchley!
Of course they did it, these reds don't know how to lose at Anfield. We were saying we'd be proud either way but there was no either way, that was so mature. They didn't deserve the disrespect that the FA showed them pulling the TV plug on them, at least everyone in Anfield was there to see it.
Onto Chelsea in the 5th round!!!
Next up back to the PL Norwich away, Saturday 15th Feburary 2020, 17:30.
Their return to the PL has been a struggle.
