At age 7, WuAi had grown into a cute elementary school child. Her favorite color was red and black, but she liked to wear blue dresses. She liked math and art, but could never do well in history. She hated history with a passion. Her eyes were like puppy eyes, they would shimmer mischievously.
One day when HenAi wasn't in the house, the big shot came by. WuAi didn't really interact with him a lot since HenAi would bring her away as fast as possible. So that day, WuAi was very interested in him.
"WuAi, say hello to Uncle Meng," WuQing called out to WuAi.
WuAi laid in WuQing's embrace and shyly said, "Hello Uncle Meng."
DaMeng smiled at her and patted her head softly, "Good girl." WuAi shrunk into WuQing some more.
WuQing grinned at DaMeng, "She's just a little shy. She'll warm up to you."
"Isn't it a good thing I brought some gifts?" DaMeng's warm voice brought WuAi a little out of her cove.
"A gift?" WuAi blinked at DaMeng excitedly, "What is it?"
DaMeng chortled, "If you come over, I'll give it to you."
WuAi thought for a moment, did she really want that gift? She figured that she did, and slowly reached her hand out for DaMeng to carry her. DaMeng and WuQing laughed when they saw this happen, and DaMeng gladly went to hold her.
WuAi was given a black diamond ring. It glittered even when it wasn't hit by sunlight. WuAi was amazed, "Uncle, what is this?"
DaMeng didn't answer, "Do you like it?"
"Yes! I love it," she giggled, "but I can't wear it right now." She frowned as it hung loosely from her fingers.
DaMeng smiled a little bit, "That's why I also got you string so that you can wear it around your neck." He took out a red string, looped it through the ring and placed it around her neck. "I've been through a lot with this ring, and I believe that it matches you just right."
WuAi smiled wildly to DaMeng, "Thank you Uncle Meng!"
Eventually they spent the entire afternoon together until HenAi came back and she looked at DaMeng in shock. He had WuAi on his lap, and WuQing fed HenAi some water and after a nudge from DaMeng, he also fed him some water. HenAi's eyebrows shot through the roof at this scene. Why did it seem like she was the third wheeler.
She came in quickly to get WuAi and excused herself saying that it was time for WuAi's nap time before dinner. After getting her to sleep, she stayed outside in the darkness of the hallway. At that time, DaMeng was telling WuQing that he had to step out to go to the bathroom. Their eyes met even when HenAi was shrouded in the darkness of the hallway. He looked condescendingly down at her and mouthed a couple of words. DaMeng was not a dog like the scene she saw before, but a big wolf waiting on his prey. She gritted her teeth and nodded her head.
That night, they had dinner and whenever WuQing would help WuAi get some food, DaMeng would pout at WuQing until he also gave him the same food.
WuAi turned to HenAi and also tried to give her mom some food. HenAi laughed at her silly daughter, "It's ok. Honey, I'd like some braised pork." After WuAi saw her dad giving her mom food too, she collapsed into her seat and ate her food obediently.
DaMeng stayed the night with WuQing in the office to discuss about the hospital and this went on for a long time.
At the end of the day, WuAi thought that Uncle Meng was such a child, even wanting whatever her father gave her.
