Mal'dar

The humanoid target slid back and forth across the track with small clicks until it reached the end of the rail. It hit the end of the rail with a clang and began clicking itself towards the other end.

A yellow laser burst from the blaster pistol and hit the wall leaving a scorch mark.

“Why was that a miss?” asked the looming, helmeted figure which stood behind him.

The boy looked at the blaster pistol, which he held like a rifle. “I rushed,” he said eyes downcast.

The figure nodded, “So how do you fix it?”

“Practicing it right,” said the boy his brow furrowed at the blaster in determination.

The armored figure rustled the boy’s hair, “That’s right, now try again and take your time”.

The boy looked at the target and watched as it moved across the rail. He breathed deeply and pulled the trigger. The blaster fired the yellow laser, which slammed into the head of the target. The boy jumped in celebration nearly dropping the blaster.

“Calm down, it was one shot,” said the armored figure. Their hands lifted off the helmet that was distinguished by the T-shaped visor. “But a deal is a deal,” said the woman her jet black hair and emerald green eyes shining in the sun of Concordia.

The boy giggled with glee and put the helmet on his head. He ran around the yard of the small house laughing with glee, as the helmet bounced on his head.

The woman watched him smiling, but then there was a familiar sound, a sound all Mandalorians knew: Jetpacks. She turned and shielded her eyes from the sun as she looked into the distance. Three figures were jetpacking towards the small house.

“Mal, I need my helmet back,” said the woman tersely.

The boy sighed and walked over to his mother, head, and shoulder slouched.

She pulled the helmet off his defeated figure and kissed him on the forehead, “Tell you what you can have all day today and tomorrow if you go inside”.

His face broke in a grin, “Thanks mom” he said hugging her.

She hugged him back tightly and spoke in Man’da, “Ni kar’tayl gar darasuum ner ad’ika”. I love you, my darling child.

He looked up at his mother confused, “Mom is something wrong?"

“Go inside, and you’ll have the helmet all day tomorrow,” she said.

“I want to stay with you,” said the boy his eyes widening as if to absorb every detail on his mother’s face.

“Go inside now, and lock the door behind you,” she said firmly.

He walked to the door, stopping just outside of it and he gave his mother one last look as she put her helmet and drew her blasters. Then he went into the house and locked the door.
