Several Months Later…

Mal’dar

Mal’dar strode through the sleepy village, a devaronian eying him as he walked past its bar. Mal’dar turned and walked up the steps to the bar, his new cape hanging beside his jetpack. He loomed over the lithe devaronian who fidgeted in Mal’dar’s shadow, “What do you want?”

    “Where’s the Jedi?” asked Mal’dar.

The devaronian smiled at Mal’dar, “Sir, there is no Jedi here”.

Mal’dar pulled a coin purse from his belt, held it out, and dropped it in front of the devaronian, “Where is the Jedi?”

The devaronian bowed in front of Mal’dar, “Sir I swear, there is no Jedi”. He reached for the coin purse.

Mal’dar kneed the devaronian in his face and the devaronian fell to the ground groaning. Mal’dar pressed his boot in-between the devaronian’s horns and pushed down, “Where is the Jedi?”

“A parsec outside of town to the south, her name is Zoras Kovani, she’s a Twi’lek” hissed the devaronian.

Mal’dar lifted his boot off the devaronian’s head and grabbed his coin purse, “I don’t care what their name is”. He walked over to a building which had three speeders parked outside of it with a man examining another. “How much for a speeder?”

The man spat on the ground and stood, looking at Mal’dar, “Their broke, Mando”.

“Are you refusing to help a bounty hunter working for the empire?” asked Mal’dar tersely.

“No,” said the man, “They're broke”.

Mal’dar examined the speeders, the three outside all floating in fine condition. He whipped out his blaster and rapidly shot two of them. The two speeders fell to the ground smoking and the man yelled, “What are you doin’!”

Mal’dar looked at the man impassively, “They're broke”. He sat in the third speeder and reeved the engine before looking at the man again, “Seems you were mistaken,” as he pointed his blaster at the man.

The man gulped and slowly backed away from Mal’dar, “Yeah must of been”.

Mal’dar holstered his blaster and pressed the gas on the speeder. He turned out of town and made his way south.

Mal’dar had driven through the desert for nearly an hour when he saw the small hut. He let go of the gas and drifted a stop. He swung off of the speeder and eyed the hut it was in range. He aimed his wrist rocket at the building and fired. The rocket shot through the air and struck the side of the hut. An explosion flared out and Mal’dar walked towards the hut. A large hole was in the side and the edges of the hole were charred black. Dozens of stones which had been making up the hut been sprayed inside. Mal’dar glanced around, the hut was sparsely furnished only a bed, and a couple thrown together tables, but no Jedi.

Something landed on him and Mal’dar was knocked to his stomach. He heard a lightsaber activate and activated his jetpack. Mal’dar shot forward the lightsaber piercing the ground where he had just been. He spun to face the Jedi and landed, the wall to his back. The Jedi was a middle-aged woman a green lightsaber in her hands. “Who are you?” she asked.

Mal’dar drew his blaster and sword. He swung at the Jedi who force pushed him. Mal’dar stumbled back and she swung at his neck. He batted away the lightsaber with his sword and fired at the Jedi. The blast struck her leg and she hopped away from him. Mal’dar fired his flamethrower at her and she jumped into the air. He fired his repulsor and she struck the ceiling. She fell to the ground and crawled away from Mal’dar, “No, no, please”.

    “Stand,” growled Mal’dar.

She rose her leg trembling and she activated her lightsaber. Mal’dar sheathed his blaster and swung at her. She blocked and parried. He kicked her injured leg and she cried out in pain falling to a knee. He swung his sword, she cried out in terror in pain as her hand and lightsaber fell to the ground.

The lightsaber flew to her and she swung wildly at Mal’dar. He leapt back the lightsaber just missing his legs. She rose and began swung at him desperately, all form gone. Mal’dar swung at her with all his strength, holding his sword with both hands. Their blades met and her lightsaber flew from her hand and clattered on the ground.

The Jedi fell to her knees and looked up at him, “Send me to force where my-” Mal’dar shot her. “Don’t care,” he said.

Mal’dar landed in the imperial base the Jedi’s body slung over his shoulder. He strode into the bounty office and tossed her body on the counter, “Any more leads on Jedi?”

The imperial officer looked from the Jedi to Mal’dar, “Some sightings have been reported though none sound valid”.

“Send them to my datapad along with the credits for the Jedi and this,” said Mal’dar putting her lightsaber on the table.

The imperial officer nodded, “Three Jedi and you haven’t kept any of their lightsabers, most Jedi Hunters like to keep them. Then again most only kill one, why you like going after them?”

“I have my reasons,” said Mal’dar, seeing Rimi’s face in his mind. He turned to walk away. He tripped and quickly regain his footing.

    “Alright?” asked the officer.

Mal’dar nodded, “Yeah,” he looked down at his legs the sight of the lightsaber nearly cutting them off playing in his mind, and he felt the weight of the Jedi landing on him.

Mal’dar walked back his ship chills running down his spine the whole way. He grabbed his datapad and quickly began scrolling through names, Khura stumbled towards him, an activity she had only recently began doing. Mal’dar scooped her up and put her on his knee, “We’re getting a crew,” he told her as he bounced her on his knee.
