Mal'dar

Mal'dar opened Pre Vizsla's tent. Vizsla sat at his desk his helmet on the desk. "Please sit," he said gesturing with his hand towards a chair.

Mal'dar sat down cautiously, "You wished to speak with me?"

Vizsla looked at Mal'dar, "Indeed, I have a proposition for you". He paused looking over Mal'dar for any reaction.

"I'm listening," said Mal'dar flatly.

Vizsla reached under his desk and Mal'dar grabbed his blaster. "Relax," said Vizsla, "I give you my word that this is in peace".

Mal'dar let go of his blaster and looked Vizsla attentively.

Vizsla slowly lifted an object from under his desk. It was covered in a satin cloth, which hung loosely around it, obscuring its shape. Vizsla set it on his desk, there was a slight ting as he did. Vizsla grasped the cloth and pulled it aside. Gleaming in the candlelight was Mal'dar's father's saber. Mal'dar felt his jaw drop slightly as his heart skipped a beat. "You won my respect those years ago," stated Vizsla, "So I trust you enough to make you this offer".

Mal'dar looked over the blade, it had obviously been recently cleaned, for not a blemish was on it. Mal'dar lowered his hand towards it and stopped himself just before touching it. Mal'dar jerked his hand away and looked at Vizsla, "What offer?"

Vizsla stood and began pacing behind his desk, "You leave and take your father's saber, in exchange you owe me a favor".

Mal'dar looked at the saber and could feel the weight of it resting his hand. "What kind of favor?" his gaze still resting upon the saber.

Vizsla looked at Mal'dar, "Anything I say if I say kill Dooku then you do it or die trying. If I say kill Satine you do it or die trying. If I say take off your helmet then you take off your helmet. If I say rob a bank, you rob a bank. In exchange, your oath to me is fulfilled, and your father's saber is yours".

Mal'dar pursed his lips, "How long do I have to decide".

"I will give you two weeks," said Vizsla.

Mal'dar nodded and stood, "I must consult someone".

Vizsla's brow furrowed, "Who?"

Mal'dar who was at the exit stopped and cast a glance back at Vizsla, "The wisest person I know".

"It's a fair offer," said Sarna as she poured tea into a metal cup. They sat at a small table outside of her home, the home where he grew up, and Mal'dar looked at door longing running through him like blood.

"I do not want to give him such power over me," said Mal'dar.

"You already have," said Sarna as she swallowed a large gulp of tea.

Mal'dar's eyebrows shot up, Mandalorian food was notoriously spicy, his mother's, in particular, something he could testify to.

Sarna continued, "He could give you orders anytime, now you simply could appeal them to the council or challenge his order through combat".

Mal'dar acknowledged this with a tip of his helmeted head. "Perhaps I could make a counteroffer," he mulled.

"Perhaps though the only thing he would accept is the lightsaber," said Sarna.

Mal'dar shrugged, "I am fine with that, I am better with a sword". He resumed mulling immediately.

Sarna nodded, "This is true," she took another large gulp of tea, "However there is something that is true".

Mal'dar shook himself and looked curiously at his mother, "And what is that?"

"Something is holding back, and I suspect her name is Rimi Jyrr," said Sarna leaning back in her seat and watching her son's reaction.

Mal'dar flinched and his chair started to fall back. He grabbed the table and pulled himself forward, "Who told you that?" he asked his voice cracking slightly.

Sarna laughed, "I know many deathwatch members, and all told me her name".

Mal'dar cleared his throat, "What about her?"

"You know that if you leave you will have to leave her, so it appears you have some thinking to do," stated his mother a smirk on her face.

Mal'dar sighed, "What would do?"

Sarna leaned forward and put her chair back on four legs. Then she pondered it for several seconds before answering, "You have to choose between living for the past and living for the future, but first you have to know do you have a future with her?"

"I don't know," said Mal'dar his hands cupping his helmet.

Sarna smiled as she looked at her son, "Well you have two weeks to find out, I suggest that use them well".

Four chapters in one day, insomnia is underrated at times. Let me know if there's anything, in particular, you want to happen in these two weeks. I'll say this once by the way, NO LEMONS! Comment or DM me for, I can't remember what I've been typing here so, comment or DM for book-related things. Vote if think the chapter deserves it. Anyways I'm really tired so, Antihero out!
