__Sonic was guiding Scourge through the small forest at the other side of the city. The trees were tall and the leaves and grass were a bright emerald green. Lots of different flowers were grouped together, dancing in the wind. Birds were sitting on tree branches in groups of two or three, staring down at Sonic and Scourge as they walked. Scourge looked like he was fascinated by the entire scenery. He would look up every time a bird would chirp and sing.
__Sonic was smiling the whole time while he watched Scourge. It made his heart warm to see he wasn't upset right now. When they were in the city, Sonic was shocked to hear Scourge wanted to see something pretty and relax. That was when Sonic thought of this forest. He remembered taking Sally here back when they used to be together. He had a lot of good memories in this particular place. But this wasn't it. There was a special part of the forest he wanted Scourge to see.
__"It shouldn't be far now," He told Scourge.
__"Where exactly are you taking me?" Scourge asked while still looking at birds.
__"You'll have to wait and see," Sonic made a quick left turn and led Scourge all the way to a giant rock cliff that was about ten feet tall. Sonic looked at Scourge when he stood next to him. "How are your rock climbing skills?"
__Scourge looked at Sonic in confusion. "My what?"
__Sonic hopped up and grabbed onto the rock wall. He started climbing up until he was about halfway and looked down at Scourge, who was staring up at him. "Come on! It's right at the top!"
__Scourge made a small grin, which surprised Sonic. He jumped up and grabbed onto the wall. It didn't take long for him to catch up to Sonic. "Lead on."
__Sonic smiled back and continued up the wall. He grabbed onto the top and struggled to pull himself up while pushing with his feet. He managed to roll over his head and landed on his back after leaping over the top. He quickly got up and held his hand out to Scourge when he was at the top. Scourge grabbed his hand and Sonic helped him up. Once Scourge was standing on both of his feet, he looked ahead of him with his eyes wide.
__Sonic took a few steps back and threw his arms up. "Tada!"
__Scourge was looking around in awe. "Woah."
__Sonic turned around and examined the place. It was just like how he remembered. An open field covered with flowers. The blue sky was clear with very few birds flying over head. Different kinds of butterflies were fluttering everywhere. What made Sonic extremely happy was the crystal pool of water at the center of the valley. It was still clean, bright, and shiny. He looked at Scourge and smiled. "Well, what do you think?"
__Scourge looked at Sonic and let out a short laugh. "I didn't even know this was here."
__Sonic's smile grew bigger as he looked over the valley. "I used to take Sally here a lot after we stopped the roboticization period. It's always beautiful and peaceful. Barely anyone knows about it."
__"Wow." Scourge made a bigger smile as well.
__Sonic held out his left hand and gestured to the pond. "You said you wanted to see something pretty and relax. Go ahead."
__Scourge stared at Sonic for a few seconds before looking at the pond. He hesitated before he walked over to the pond. He sat down on a big rock and looked into the pond.
__Sonic then started feeling a wave of emotions hit his heart. He was glad to see Scourge sitting up properly, his ears perked up, and his eyes fully open. It was so much nicer to see Scourge happy. He wanted him to be this happy all the time. It took Sonic a few seconds to get himself to move and walk over to Scourge. He sat down next to Scourge's rock and looked into the pond as well. "You know, it's been a while since I was able to hang out with anyone like this. It's really nice."
__Scourge looked at Sonic, keeping his head still. "Thought you always had your friends by your side," He said in a half mocking, half concerned tone.
__"Eh," Sonic started scratching his forehead. "You grow up and there are other things you want to pursue. Like, for instance, my sister moving back to Mobotropolis to be queen with my brother, who somehow got a job, and me getting my own house. Hell, Tails wants to make his life based on science and technology and Amy wants to work with Honey to be a fashion designer. We still find ways to get together, but that's mainly when there's a conflict now," He then sighed. "It makes me wish we could stay teenagers forever."
__Scourge moved his whole head to face Sonic. "I'm guessing you and Amy didn't hit it off?"
__Sonic shook his head. "She went through puberty fast. She started seeing things differently."
__"Huh," Scourge nodded and rearranged his legs. "So, it's pretty much lonely?"
__"Yeah, but for now I have the deer and you," Sonic had his eyes closed as he grinned. "Can't really complain."
__Scourge didn't reply and continued to look at the pond.
__Sonic decided to keep quiet and looked at Scourge. His ears drooped forward as he examined the side of Scourge's face. He then realized what he was doing and forced his eyes to look at the pond. His ears stayed down while he felt his face heat up. What am I doing? I'm trying to make him comfortable. Good thing he didn't notice. He then perked his ears and looked down to his left. Wait, what was I even doing? His face heated up even more as he gripped his bandana tightly. You need to stop whatever this is! There are two things you need to focus on! TWO THINGS! Making Scourge feel better and finding the person who killed Fiona!
