TWENTY-THREE

__Sonic woke up and found himself cuddled up to Scourge. He was in the same position from the night before, except he had his arms around Scourge as well. He smiled as he breathed in Scourge's scent. He then started rubbing his forehead against Scourge's chin since he knew that would wake him up.
__Scourge opened his eyes slowly and looked down at Sonic with a smile. He sat up and held Sonic's head in his lap. "Morning."
__"Morning," Sonic sat up and kissed Scourge's cheek. "You made me happy last night. I hope you know that."
__Scourge then kissed Sonic's cheek and caressed it with his fingers. "Yeah, I know. That was the plan."
__Sonic put his hand on Scourge's and moved only his eyes to look down at the pond. "It's almost like this place is magic. Good things always happen here."
__Scourge giggled as he stood up and helped Sonic stand. "It seems like it," He then held Sonic's hand. "Let's go back."
__Sonic happily walked alongside Scourge down the forest the long way back.

__Sonic and Scourge were walking and stopped in front of the door to look at each other. Neither one of them said anything. Instead, they immediately hugged and kissed each other. Sonic felt Scourge's hand move down from his back to his tail, which made him pull away and smirk.
__"What?" Scourge put on an innocent look on his face.
__"Keep your hands off the equator," Sonic warned him jokingly.
__Scourge laughed and pulled his hands away. "Whatever you say, your majesty," He then bowed playfully.
__Sonic returned the bow before lightly kicking Scourge's leg.
__"Ow! Hey!" Scourge brought his leg back and smirked. "Okay, okay! I get it."
__Sonic chuckled as he grabbed both of Scourge's hands and looked into his eyes. "All jokes aside, I'm glad we're in this together."
__"Me, too." Scourge then pressed his lips against Sonic's forehead.
__"Well...I sure came in at a bad time."
__Both Sonic and Scourge whipped their heads around and saw Tails standing there with his ears flattened. He looked embarrassed.
__"Tails!" Sonic moved away from Scourge and walked up to Tails. "Let me explain..."
__Tails shook his head. "No need. I get it," He made an awkward smile. "But I gotta say I would've never imagined this."
__Sonic laughed awkwardly and started scratching his face out of nerves. "Neither did I."
__"How are you feeling?" Tails asked, changing the subject.
__"I'm all right," Sonic assured him. "It won't take too long for this to heal." He motioned his finger to his throat and chest.
__Tails nodded and crossed his arms. "They found another victim last night."
__Sonic frowned and leaned forward. "What?"
__"This one was male," Tails explained. "A black fox in his early twenties. He was also killed in the woods."
__"Was everyone murdered in the woods?"
__"Yes. Every victim that they found were in the woods. I forgot to tell you that."
__Sonic looked down at his feet and crossed his arms. "And Super Metal Sonic attempted to kill me in the woods. I bet that's where he's been hiding," He then looked up at Tails. "Did you find a connection between that disk and the robot?"
__Tails nodded. "I contacted Eggman and forced him to tell me about the disk."
__Scourge then walked over and stood next to Sonic. "How did you force him to talk."
__"I have my ways," Tails smirked.
__Sonic looked at Scourge and elbowed him. "He's really good and tying down villain hostages, remember?"
__Scourge stayed silent and looked away.
__"Anyway," Tails continued. "He said the disk I have was a prototype. He made it in his lab and wasn't satisfied with it, so he went to Angel Island to find some rare substance and I guess he dropped the prototype. That's when I found it a month later."
__"Did he tell you how the robot's illusions work?" Sonic asked.
__"Yeah. He said the illusions are based on your desires, so it is like the Phantom Ruby in a weird way," Tails then narrowed his eyes and smirked. "You said it turned into Scourge when it tried to kill you?"
__"Shut up!" Sonic lightly punched Tails' arm. "Let's just say it was an upsetting moment."
__Scourge flattened his ears after hearing that.
__"All right, so the robot is hiding in the woods," Tails concluded. "We should be able to find it easily."
__"Wrong," Sonic interrupted him. "That robot can turn invisible, too."
__"What!" Tails exclaimed. "I told Eggman to tell me everything about that robot!"
__"Please," Scourge muttered.
__Tails then grinned. "Maybe we can finally put those old paintball guns to use?" Excitement glimmered in his eyes.
__Sonic chuckled and nodded. "I guess so. Do they still work?"
__"They should," Tails assured him.
__"Great! Now I think you should be the one to tell the rest of the Freedom Fighters about this. I would but..." Sonic motioned his head to Scourge.
__Tails rolled his eyes. "Right. Right," His tails then started twisting and he was in the air. "I'll be gathering a group of people tomorrow to build a strategy. You better be there."
__"I will!"
__Tails smiled one last time before he flew away.
__Sonic grabbed Scourge's arm and led him inside the house. He was about to go into the kitchen to make breakfast when Scourge grabbed his arm and stopped him.
__"Sit down and watch T.V. or something," He told him. 
__Sonic pouted and crossed his arms. "I can cook for myself now," He grumbled.
__"Not while I'm here when you're injured."
__"Oh come on!"
__Scourge giggled and guided Sonic to the couch. "I'm doing this for you, you know?"
__Sonic sat down and nodded. "I know," He muttered.
__Scourge leaned his head to Sonic's and kissed his cheek. "You like my cooking anyway."
__Sonic smiled before he looked away. "I do."
__Scourge rubbed Sonic's head, messing up his fur before he walked into the kitchen.
__Sonic brought up his hand and fixed his fur. Annoying, but loving. He reached for the remote and turned on the T.V. He heard sizzling coming from the kitchen and could smell the bacon. For someone who has lived in the woods for a long while, he really knows how to cook. Then again, he had another life before he was Scourge. Sonic stretched his arms up and laid down on the couch as he watched whatever anime was about to show on T.V. I'm just glad I'm no longer alone.
