Positives and Negatives {Sonourge}

ELEVEN

__Sonic and Scourge had been sitting by the pond for about fifteen minutes. Sonic was telling Scourge stories from his childhood before he met him. Scourge seemed interested in his stories. He wore a small grin on his face and would sometimes nod his head. Right now, Sonic was telling him about how he and his friends went into space to get their planet egg back from the Metarex. He had to explain to Scourge how Eggman and Chris were the only ones that needed spacesuits to breathe in outer space.
__"Humans can't breathe in space?"
__"Nope. I'm not quite sure why, though. Humans are still a mystery to me."
__"I never really fancied humans," Scourge remarked. "But I think that's because of Kintobor."
__"Why's that?" Sonic tilted his head.
__Scourge just shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know. I just didn't like him and that affected how I saw other humans. Plus, these two so-called gods in Zone Jail were very annoying. I think they were called Al and Cal. Not really humans, but they had the bodies."
__"Al and Cal? Aw, man!" Sonic laughed and shook his head. "I remember those two. God, they made my brain hurt with their confusing speech patterns and the constant changes in their home zone. I nearly threw up!"
__Scourge just rolled his eyes. "They kept calling themselves gods, but they were just a couple of scared worms in that prison."
__"How did you even get out if it was inescapable according to Zonic?" Sonic asked as he narrowed his eyes.
__Scourge flattened his ears and looked away. "Well...Fiona got the Destructix, got themselves arrested, and broke me out. You'd have to be there to see how intense it was."
__Sonic giggled as he crossed his legs. "Sounds better than my prison escape."
__Scourge perked his ears and looked at Sonic in disbelief. "You've been arrested?"
__Sonic nodded. "Yeah! This was back when everyone thought Shadow was me," He grumbled. "He stole a Chaos Emerald and framed me," He then smiled when Scourge leaned his head back. "They took me to prison island and Amy was the one to break me out of my cell. Looking back at it now, it wasn't that exciting."
__Scourge let out a short laugh and shook his head. "The fuck? Being framed, though..." He stopped talking and started laughing.
__"What's so funny?"
__"I just can't imagine how anyone can mistake Shadow for you," Scourge explained after he stopped laughing.  "Like, why!?"
__Sonic just shrugged his shoulders. "I don't even know. He's black and I'm blue for crying out loud!"
__"Shit, man," Scourge shook his head. "Can't even."
__Sonic giggled again and continued telling Scourge his stories as he brought his knees up and wrapped his arms around them. He was so happy to see Scourge was enjoying himself. He wondered if Scourge even noticed he was smiling and laughing at him while he talked. It was like he was a completely different person from when they first met. It confused Sonic, but he liked this new Scourge.

__They were in the city and walking back to Sonic's home. The people were staring, of course, but they didn't seem concerned about them. Scourge didn't even seem to mind either. He just continued to grin while Sonic was talking. Sonic found his voice trailing off when he saw another green hedgehog walking on the other side of the street. He stopped walking and looked at Scourge. "Wait here a minute." He then ran across the street and stood in front of the green hedgehog. "Hey!"
__The green hedgehog look up and his eyes went wide. He made a huge smile and gave Sonic the same death-grip hug Sonia had given him. "Dude! Holy shit, it's you! It's been years, man!"
__Sonic hugged him back and shook him a bit. "Missed you, Manic!"
__Manic let go of Sonic. His smile suddenly turned into a frown as he punched Sonic in the arm. "What the hell, bro!? Why haven't you called or even texted me in three years!?" He was glaring at him now.
__Sonic smiled awkwardly as he started to rub his arm. "Sorry, little bro. Life hasn't been easy."
__Manic snorted. "Oh, yeah right. Of course it hasn't, Mr. Worldwide Hero."
__"Come on, Manic!"
__"Did you even see Sonia at least?"
__"Yeah, I went to the castle this morning to talk to her," Sonic explained. "She told me you got a job now."
__Manic made a small grin and looked away. "Yeah. Why are you here anyway?"
__"I was telling Sonia how much of my money I needed to take out every month."
__"Why's that?"
__"I'm paying off my friend's debt with the No Zone," Sonic pointed at Scourge, who was still waiting, and Manic looked over to see. "I needed to make sure I wouldn't lose everything," Manic looked at Sonic with narrowed eyes, making Sonic wave his hands at him. "On the plus side, Sonia said you're going to be the richer one out of us now."
__Manic crossed his arms and rolled his eyes. "Why am I being the responsible one now?"
__Sonic shrugged his shoulders. "Because Sonia and I are spending money for other people maybe?" He teased.
__That's when Manic straightened. "Wait, why are you paying off someone else's debt!?"
__"I needed to say something so the Zone Cops wouldn't take him away!"
__"So you're helping a fugitive now?"
__"No!" Sonic then looked away. "I mean...It's complicated."
__"Isn't everything when it comes to you?" Manic asked sarcastically.
__"Hey, man," Sonic looked back at Manic. "I didn't ask for this. I'm just trying to help someone in need. But besides all that, I really did miss you. Sonia wants the three of us to hang out sometime soon."
__Manic grinned. "We really do. Look, I have to go. I'm gonna be late for work."
__"Oh! What's your job?"
__"Not telling! If Sonia can't know, then you can't either!" Manic stuck his tongue out at Sonic.
__Sonic narrowed his eyes. "Do I need to be worried about this?"
__"Nope! Bye!" Manic slapped Sonic on the back and ran off.
__"Hey!" Sonic stared after Manic and started laughing. "Screw you!" He shook his head and ran back over to Scourge. "Sorry about that."
__"What was that all about?"
__"That was my brother," Sonic grinned. "He's really sweet when you get to know him. Come on. Let's get going before I run into someone else familiar."
__Scourge nodded and began following Sonic again.
__Everything's going great. Sonic thought happily. That's one less thing to worry about now.
