TWENTY-SIX

__"Why are we changing strategies!?" Sonic exclaimed to Sally through the phone. "The robot is in the woods and Tails said we could use those old paintball guns to find him if it's invisible!"
__Scourge was sitting on the couch, watching and moving his head while Sonic paced around the room. He was confused but hadn't said anything while Sonic was on the phone.
__"Tails said he thought of a better idea than paintball guns," Sally replied carefully.
__"It took him two days after we had a full-proof strategy we already had a meeting about?" Sonic asked sarcastically."
__Two days before, Sonic and Scourge had joined Tails, Sally, Antoine, Bunnie, Shadow, Rouge, E-123 Omega, and Nicole to discuss the strategy. Their plan was to hideout in the woods after the cameras caught something and jump the robot. They were going to use the paintball guns if the robot turned invisible so that they would still be able to see him. But now it seemed their plan had changed.
__"Please, Sonic," Sally pleaded. "This one's better."
__"It better be," Sonic groaned. "I don't want to risk anything."
__"Tails wants to set traps all over the woods," Sally explained."
__"Wait," Sonic interrupted. "You do realize that robot can turn invisible and see what we're doing, right?"
__"Yes, we know," Sally replied in annoyance. "You need to let me finish before you butt in. He wants the robot to think we're being stupid."
__Sonic stopped pacing and looked out the window to stare into the woods. "And then?"
__"The real traps will be underground," Sally continued. "Knuckles will be digging around underground to set up these sinkhole things to trap it once it steps over it."
__"That...sounds great actually," Sonic sat down next to Scourge and continued to look out the window. "And what do we do once it's trapped?"
__"Tails wants to see if he can limit its movements. Does Scourge still want to deal the final blow?"
__Sonic looked at Scourge. "Yeah, of course he does."
__"All right, that's basically it."
__"When do we start?"
__"When the cameras find something. Tails and Knuckles are already setting up the traps. We'll call you when it starts."
__"Good," Sonic hung up the phone and threw it on the coffee table. "God damn."
__"You seem stressed," Scourge inferred.
__"I'm surprised you aren't," Sonic replied as he stood up. "This is all too exciting."
__Scourge snorted and rolled his eyes. "I'm sure you've been through worse."
__"Yeah," Sonic nodded. "I think that zombot virus was the most tiring thing I've dealt with so far."
__Scourge looked at Sonic in confusion. "Zombot virus?"
__"You were still in Moebius when this happened," Sonic explained. "Eggman and Starline made up this virus that turned everyone into zombie robots. I was actually infected, but because of my speed, I was able to slow it down."
__"How did you stop it?"
__"I'll tell you later," Sonic replied awkwardly.
__Scourge then hugged Sonic from behind. "What else happened before I came back?"
__"Well," Sonic began. "There was a war with Eggman and Infinite. The zombot invasion happened shortly after that," Sonic placed his hands on Scourges arms and grinned. "Before all that, there was a time-eater and I got to meet my younger self and there was also this period where Eggman tried controlling the Zeti and they tried to destroy our world. Actually, the Zeti took part in the zombot invasion, too."
__"Damn," Scourge muttered. "That's rough."
__Sonic pulled away from Scourge and turned to look at him. "It's nothing I can't handle."
__Scourge nodded before his eyes grew wide.
__"What's wrong?" Sonic asked.
__"Is that Buck?" 
__Sonic turned around and saw Buck out the window. He was running and hopping around in circles. He seemed to be yelling. Sonic ran outside in the backyard and flattened his ears as the deer's screeching became clear. He stayed where he was and waited until Scourge was next to him. Both of them watched the deer stop, look at them, and began rearing up and screaming.
__"What is wrong with you!?" Sonic shrieked.
__"I'll bet he ate a rotten apple," Scourge remarked.
__Buck began pacing to the woods and back to Sonic and Scourge quickly, making weird and urgent noises as he did. When Sonic started walking to Buck, the deer ran into the woods and stopped to stare at Sonic. Sonic then started running and following Buck through the woods with Scourge trailing after them. They kept running until Buck stopped and started rearing up again. Sonic went ahead of Buck and his eyes grew wide. He saw Tails fighting back Super Metal Sonic. 
__Out of pure instinct, he curled into a ball and attacked the robot, throwing it back into one of the trees. When he untucked, he stood in front of Tails protectingly. The robot got up and shook its head before it looked at Sonic. It smiled evilly as it threw its arms out.
__"Why, hello again, Sonic," It greeted brightly. "You're still alive it seems," It then jumped back as Scourge charged at it. When Scourge tried to move toward the robot, it swung its claws at him as a warning. "Oh, this won't do. You can't just interrupt when people are trying to catch up."
__Scourge jumped back before the claws could hit him as he glared at the robot. "You're not a person!" He growled.
__"Tsk tsk," The robot shook its head. It then locked eyes with Sonic's. "Whatever you plan on doing, you better stop. I'm not as dumb or blind as Eggman's other robots."
__Sonic bared his teeth as he started growling. "You're no robot. You're a monster!"
__The robot laughed out maniacally. "I like that better! Well, you've been warned. Ta-tah!" He then turned invisible and running footsteps could be heard fading away. Scourge then tried following the footsteps, but Sonic grabbed his arm.
__"Don't!" He yelled. He had to use both hands to pull Scourge back. "We already have a plan set! That robot is invisible right now and will attack you easily."
__Scourge stopped pulling and crossed his arms. "That damn fucking son of a bitch!" He growled. He turned to face Sonic. "This plan better be worth it."
__Sonic then ran back over to Tails. "Are you okay!?"
__Tails nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine. He only got arm," He held up his right forearm and there were two gashes, one long and one short.
__"Ah fuck," Sonic carefully grabbed Tails' arm and examined the gashes. "Did you fall for the illusion?"
__Tails shrugged his shoulders, "Not really. He turned into Cosmo, and since Cosmo is dead, I knew it had to be a trick. He still managed to get my arm, though. But jokes on him, I can take care of any foe."
__Scourge walked over to them and narrowed one eye. "Really now? I'm guessing you didn't get to show it since we came here and did it for you?"
__Tails narrowed his eyes at him. "Don't go poking a bear," He warned. "I've beaten you before, remember?"
__"Psh!" Scourge rolled his eyes. "You had help."
__"Okay!" Sonic blurted out. He looked at Tails. "Either way, you were lucky Buck came and led us here."
__Everyone turned their head to look at Buck. He was still standing there, his eyes wide and his ears and tail up. He would stomp his front right leg every so often and snort.
__Sonic walked up to the deer and carefully patted his back. "You're smart a deer," He then looked at the deer's right flank. The three gashes were faded and dark pink on his flesh. "Nice to see you're still standing strong, bud."
__"Can we just take Tails back to the house and patch him up?" Scourge groaned. "I don't want to stand here all day."
__Sonic nodded as he started petting Buck's neck. "Bye, Buck!" He then started walking with Tails and Scourge walking on either side of him. "Did you finish the traps?" He asked Tails.
__"Oh, I finished like an hour ago," Tails replied. "I was just double-checking everything."
__"Good. At least things are going well with the plan so far. What about Knuckles?"
__Tails looked around the woods and flattened his ears. "I'll tell you later," He whispered. "Don't want to risk it."
