ALEX'S POV.

I woke up early as usual. I walked into the bathroom, brushed my teeth, and had my bath.
Just like every other day, I walked into the kitchen to get cereals to eat, that's if there is anyone left. I perceived a very delicious aroma. Are the maids back? I asked myself. No one was in the kitchen, I opened the pot, I could see freshly made Jollof Rice. I was confused. Is this house haunted? I asked myself again.
Then I remembered I had a dream that my mum came back with my Dad and...
“Good morning son” I heard a voice behind me.

“Oh, it's not a dream. Good morning mum” I scratched my head.

“Dream? You had a dream?” She asked.

“Never mind mum” I smiled and hugged her.

“You haven't told me how you got released, mum. Were you justified or?” I was confused.

“Well, my son. I don't know how it happened but after all the years I've spent there, I thought I might end up dying there; until I woke up one morning, and I was called out with few of my fellow inmates. Cameramen everywhere, taking our pictures and all, I was confused. It was when I saw the president I realized that we were given a presidential pardon” She smiled.

“Wow, I didn't even know about all this. I need to read the news more often”. I said and smiled.
My dad walked in with his phone in his hand. He smiled at me, I bowed and greeted him.
"Good morning dear” My mum smiled at my Dad.
can see you two are up for a reunion without me uhn?” He teased.

“Not really, I was just telling him how I got out of...” She reserved her words.

“Prison? Oh! That's what I came across minutes ago” He said, going through his phone. “Here it is, that should explain the reason behind this sudden miracle” He smiled handing me his phone.

“Wow, this is indeed a miracle Dad” I smiled.

“Indeed it is,” My mum said and continued. “ We were kept in a better place for a week, where we were given a lot of lessons and all. If not, I'd have been home a long time ago”

“I can't believe I'm with my family right now. This is a new beginning Dad, Mum”

“It is son. Now go get ready for school”. My mum added.

“ I can't wait”. I walked out of the kitchen.

“Wow, you can't wait?” My Dad asked.
I pretended like I didn't hear him.  I went into my room packed my bags.
“Bye mum” I waved.

“Here, your lunch” She handed me a lunch box.

“Mum, this is childish. When I come back, I'll eat it”

“I insist” She looked at me.

“OK, fine”. I smiled at her. I used to not believe in miracles; now I do. Who would have known I'd see my mom cooking for me this morning. I can't wait to tell Rose about all this and also apologize for the inconvenience.

ROSE'S POV.

“No! No! You can't do this, don't do this, please. Don't!” I screamed as I woke up breathing heavily.
It's a nightmare. I was soaked in sweats, I've never had a nightmare before, not that I can recollect. I looked through the windows and I realized that I was late for school, I can't believe I woke up this late today.
I heard a knock on my door, and I was scared. That's quite unusual.

“Who is that”

“Rose, you're late for school and why were you shouting the other time?” Sister Tayo asked.

“Good morning ma,” I said as I opened the door.

“And when did you start locking your door, Rose?”  She asked further.

“Yester- today. “ I stammered.

“Rose, are you sure you're OK? I mean, you've been acting strange of recent” She looked worried lifting her hands up to touch me on my shoulder, I dodged.

“Wow, I can't even touch you? Rose?” She looked surprised.

“I'm sorry ma, but I have to get ready for school”. I walked back into my room. I know I'm not supposed to let her suspect that I found anything until I find more about all this, but I just couldn't help it, I'm not much of a pretender. All my expressions were written on my face and I knew it.
Minutes later I was ready for school, I went into the kitchen grabbed breakfast and left.

“Rose” Alex stood up from his chair like he has been expecting me. He should though.

“Late as usual Uhn?” He teased. I wanted to say a word but it wasn't coming, this happened when I lost my parents. He looked at me confusingly.
“I'm sorry, I didn't know they'd come; I didn't plan for it to happen. You know I would never put you in that type of situation” He looked at me.
Now, what is he talking about?

“Please, say something,” He said.

“It's fine, I'm not just in a good mood today, that's all” I managed to say, faking a smile.

“What's wrong? Please talk to me” He looked worried.

“It's nothing, Alex. If it's something you should know, I'd have told you” I smiled.

“Oh, well, thanks for showing me my boundaries,” He said facing the board, showering me with so much guilt.

“Alex? I'm sorry but it's complicated.
“It's fine, I'll just go check on David” He walked away.
I watched him walk away, I wished I could tell him about all this. Thank God he didn't ask about what we searched for in his mum's room.

ALEX'S POV.

I walked out of the class, leaving Rose where she was seated. I didn't know why she was acting all mushed up, I already apologized about what happened.  Something is eating her up, but why can't she just trust me for once, why would she say that if it's something I'm supposed to know she'd have to tell me. I thought we've gotten to the extent where we share our problems together, I actually just wanted to tell her how my mum got released but I guess she doesn't care, I'm quite sure she saw my parents that's why she left; she didn't even bother asking how it all happened.

I couldn't find David in his class, I asked one of his classmates, and he told me that he hasn't been coming for days now.
Why hasn't he been coming? I think I need to check upon him. I said to myself.
I went back to my classroom, and we were given our exam seat numbers.  I didn't even prepare for the exam, but it was English we had today; no one fails English. I said to myself.

*****************************************
The exam lasted for six days, I barely saw Rose because we were not in the same exam hall. Most times after exams, I'd search everywhere for her but I didn't get to see her. Her seatmates would always say she left minutes ago. I think she's avoiding me and I don't know why. What did I do this time? I asked myself.
I was worried, it has been a while that I've lived without seeing or talking to any of my friends for days, and even Rose.
David wasn't home when I checked up on him yesterday, I hope he has resolved his issue with Martha.
