After getting to the end of the dirt road, you, Zenitsu, and Tanjirou were cutting through the woods. You and the redhead went ahead while the yellow haired boy was dragging behind. The shade of the trees felt nice after being in the sun. If anything, you weren't to fond of sunlight, even as a child. If you went to visit your grandma in California, you wouldn't wear a swimsuit. Just a sundress with a hat to keep your body protected from the sun. You hummed in content at the memory.
"Hey Tanjirou, (Y/N)," Zenitsu said from behind. "On second thought. I'm not gonna make it. even if I go along I'll be totally useless."
You turned around to look at the yellow haired boy. Then, you bonked him on the head. "Stop harping on yourself like that," you said. "I'm sure you're strong. You got through the final selection. Even if you say it was by luck."
"Now you start talking?!"
Tanjirou continued to walk ahead. He was sniffing the air for anything out of the ordinary. Light started to show up in the path. An open space was at the end, with trees surrounding it. In the middle, was a two story house made of a dark wood. 'Who lives there?' you thought. The person that did must be loaded if they can afford that.
"I can smell blood," Tanjirou said while looking up at the house. "But this particular scent..."
"You smell something?" Zenitsu asked the redhead.
"It's something I haven't smelled before."
The yellow haired boy cupped his ear while looking to the house as well. "I don't know about that, but do you hear that sound?" he asked. "Also, we're gonna be working together right?"
"Sound?" the redhead gazed at Zenitsu. You looked around the open space to see where the sound he was hearing was coming from. Then, you saw two kids cowering in the shade of the trees. They both had dark hair and dark eyes. One of them was a boy in a blue haori. The other was a girl in braids and a pink kimono. You cocked your head while wearing a blank face. You tapped both Tanjirou, and Zenitsu's shoulders. The two boys looked at the kids in front of them.
"K-kids?" Zenitsu stuttered.
"I wonder what's wrong," Tanjirou said. He started to walk over to them. "Hey guys, what are you doing down here?" he asked. The two kids kept clinging onto each other. The redhead stopped to think of what to do. You averted your gaze to the side. 'I can't make anything float,' you thought. You looked at Zenitsu and Tanjirou. They would ask so many questions the instant something floated into the sun. Also, you weren't sure if you could trust the kids to not tell.
You then saw the redhead's eyes light up. "Wanna see something cool," he told the kids. He got down on the ground to their level. Then, he pulled out Zenitsu's sparrow. "Ta da," he said. "It's a tame sparrow. Isn't he cute." The sparrow chirped and the kids seemed to calm down a little bit. At least they stopped shaking.
Being curious about the house itself, you went over to the kids. Over the years, you found easier to talk to people younger than you. You supposed it was because they would start the actual conversation. "Do you know anything about that house?" you asked while pointing to it. You tried to sound as gentle an motherly as possible. The boy shook his head.
"Please tell us," Tanjirou said. "Did something happen? Is it your house?"
The boy shook his head again. "No. No it's not," he said. "It's...a monster's house. Out big brother got taken away. When we were walking down the road at night, this monster showed up. We hadn't seen it before. It only glanced at our brother." You could only assume the monster they were talking about was a demon.
