If I had to say one thing that I look forward to every week it would always be bird watching with Stan. We were very close, I can't remember a time when we weren't together. It was always (Y/n) and Stanley, we practically lived in the same house as kids.

Now, however, I cherish the moments alone with Stan. Most of our time is spent with the whole group of losers and if we aren't with them, then it's too late out to even spend time together. Don't get me wrong, I love the losers dearly but I feel as if Stan and I have lost the connection we had before.

Even with the group of losers, my eyes would travel directly to him. Beverly would tease me constantly about it, calling me "lovesick". She would shut up when I mention January embers. However, she couldn't be more right; I was lovesick. Everything he did I would smile at, every joke he made I would laugh at, I was head over heels for my childhood friend.

Even so, I was never good at hiding it. Being in close proximity made me extremely flustered. I blame it on hormones. Now was not a good time to be flustered, especially because there wasn't exactly anywhere to go. Stanley and I were birdwatching, quietly tucked in a bush while birds around us chirped in the trees. Stanley's shoulder was pressed against mine, we were so pushed together that he might as well just drape his arm over my shoulder. As soon as the thought crossed my mind, I freaked out, almost falling over from my sudden movement.

Stanley's focus instantly switched from his binoculars to me, eyebrows furrowing in confusion as I tried to get myself together. "Are you okay?" He asked quietly, not wanting to disturb any of the birds around us.

"Yeah," I answered quickly, almost too quickly. "Um, I'm going to- uh- go over there to that bush. Maybe I'll be able to see more from there." I pointed over towards a bush that was way too small for me to even cover myself.

"What?" Stanley was perplexed, grabbing my forearm when I started to get up. "No, then we won't see the birds together."

This was definitely not helping me, it only made me more flustered. I felt hot all over and just wanted to hide somewhere else. "I'm just not feeling very well," I said, offering Stan a small grin.

"Do you have a fever?" Stan laid the back of his hand against my forehead to gauge my temperature. "You feel a bit hot."

Did he just call me hot? "No, no, I'm fine Stan. I promise. I just need to, um, catch my breath?" My pitch rose at the end as if I was asking for permission.

All of a sudden, a look of realization crossed Stan's face, and he grinned mischievously at me. "You're being shy with me, aren't you.."

"No, I'm not!" I defended, my face bright red from embarrassment. Oh god, he found out.

"Yes, you are!"

I opened and closed my mouth like a fish out of water, not sure how to respond.

"Do you like me?" Stan whispered, the grin disappearing from his face.

My head swung towards him and our eyes met immediately "What?"

"You heard me."

Well, there was no use hiding it now, right? He's already seen me flustered and we've been friends since the beginning. Stanley recognizes when I tell a lie.

"Yeah," I whispered back, my eyes not leaving his. On one hand, I was scared out of my mind. I didn't want to lose what we already had, but I also wanted what we didn't have.

Stan's smile grew back, making me almost sigh out of relief. Even if he didn't like me back, at least he wasn't repulsed by my infatuation with him.

"I like you too."

The words that left his mouth surprised me so much that I almost didn't recognize his lips placed on mine.
