Chapter 9: Fools Paradise

Dean's POV:

"It's not possible!" I argue with Drew. Sara took Jay outside for a bit so I'm talking to Drew in private while I can.

"Well what do you think it is?" He asks.

"I don't know! All I know is that no human can heal from a bullet that quickly, no human's eyes can change colors, especially not to silver, and no human can beat a male Wolf to near death! Especially not a woman!" I reply.

After Sara pulled Jaydenn away yesterday morning, we kicked, well more like carried, the men out. What bothers me is they were from my pack.

"What do they want with Sara, anyway?" Drew asks.

"How should I know?" I growl, "They're messing with my Mate and I don't like it."

"She's your Mate?" Drew asks with a dumbfounded look on his face.

"Drew. Number one, your really slow. Number two, if she weren't my Mate, I wouldn't be here; I would have skipped town a long time ago. It's humans that drove us into hiding." I reply a bit more bitterly than planned.

"Yeah, I am a little slow aren't I?" He reply's smiling. I love that trait Drew has. He see's the good in everything, and when he chooses, can be completely ignorant to the world.

Living in a fools paradise.

"That's all you got out of that?" I laugh.

He was about to reply until the front door of the store opens. Jay comes running and laughing with Zeus chasing her; he always loved kids.

Sara comes back and leans on the armrest of the couch beside Drew. She smiles as Zeus tackles Jay. The dog is almost as big as her. Sara looks at me and says, "Can I talk to you for a minute?"

I nod and stand up, following her. She leads me a few isle's down, out of hearing range, well, Jay's hearing range.

"I need a favor." She say's crossing her arms.

"Anything." I reply.

"It's about Jaydenn. She seems really fond of you and Drew, and uh.. I was wondering if something ever happened to me, I want to know that you will take her in and watch over her." She asks. I stare for a minute, she actually trust's me with her?

"Don't talk like that. I won't let anything happen to you. If it makes you feel better, I will take care of her. Both of you." I reply.

She smiles and nods. She thanks me and kisses me on the cheek, causing sparks, and walks back. I don't know how much longer I can hold my wolf back.

-----Sara's POV-----

I shuffle through the shelf of food trying to find something that hasn't expired. We're going to have to move soon. Or at least leave to find food and come back.

After about ten minutes, I huff in frustration and give up. I walk back to the living room and tell Dean, "We need to find food. It's hard to find something that hasn't expired."

He nods and starts to think. After a few seconds he say's, "Were there any bows in the weapons?"

"Only a few." I respond.

"Go get them and I'll get some camouflage clothes. Looks like were doing this the old fashioned way." He say's smiling.

"Wait, what about the game? I thought all of the animals disappeared." I question.

"Zeus is here isn't he?" He reply's and walks off, making the assumption that we'll find something.

It makes me wonder about our horses. Where were they? I give up the one sided argument and walk to the back of the sports section. All of this walking back and forth is going to kill me someday.

I grab four bows and four quiver's off of the shelf. I walk back and see that Dean has the clothes. I toss him a bow and a quiver and get some clothes in return.

"I'm having Drew stay here with Jaydenn." He say's.

"No he's not. She's coming with us. I taught her how to hunt with a gun and a bow, she's as good as me. Not only that, I'm not letting her out of my sight." I reply and walk away towards my room before he has the chance to argue; it's not an arguable subject.

I throw my clothes on the bed and walk out. I then find Jaydenn and Drew and give them both a bow and clothes and tell them what's going on. I walk back and get dressed. Looks like Drew is going to need his own room now.

After changing into camouflage, well, everything, I walk out with my bow in hand and quiver over my shoulder. Jay and I both preferred bows over guns. They're loud and drive away game. We only use them for target practice.

I sit down in the living room and wait for everyone else. Dean is the first to show up, then came everyone else.

"Alright," Dean say's, "There's a certain part of the woods we need to hunt in, it will take a while to get there on foot, so I was thinking we could shift and you two could ride on our backs there. I guess it's a good thing were on the outskirts of the city. This part of the woods is unmarked land, meaning no packs, but a chance of rouge's. So we have to be careful."

I nod my head and say, "Well, I guess we'll hitch a ride to save time."

"I bet me and Drew will beat you there!" Jay yells jumping from the couch.

I smile and look at Dean, "It's on."
