Chapter 2: The Others

(Kelly Burgland and Jaydenn Loveck, picture on side. If the pic isn't visible, please let me know.)

Sara's POV:

This makes no sense, how does the entire town population just disappear into thin air? I'm still sitting in my office, completely lost on what to do. Jay is just walking around my office looking at pictures and different things. It's too quiet for my liking, all I can here is Jaydenn's foot steps. My mind is racing, thinking of different places to go and what to do. My thoughts were interrupted when a phone starts ringing on someone's office desk in the other room.

I walk out of my office and to the phone, I don't recognize the number, but it's ringing, which means someone is calling, as in someone is still here. I pick up the phone.

"Hello?" I ask as Jay watches me carefully. She quickly points to the speaker phone button on the phone, so I press it so she can hear also.

"Thank god, Macy are you okay? Please tell me your day is not going like mine is," Says a male voice. I knew Macy, she was one of my partners at one time, then she was assigned office duty. We didn't talk much after that.

"First of all I'm not Macy, I'm Sara, her co-worker, second of all, yes my day is going exactly like yours," I reply.

"You haven't seen Macy?" He asks concern clearly in his voice.

"I'm sorry but no, she used to be my partner on patrol duty though, until she was transferred so I don't have any contact with her. I'm at the office with my niece, I'm the only one that showed up. Do you know of anyone else that's still, uh, here?" I ask, not really knowing how to phrase that last question.

"No, even my dog is gone. Whats going on?" He asks.

"Come to think of it, our horses are gone too. I don't really know. What town do you live in?" I ask. Jaydenn's face saddens when I mentioned the horses, I guess I probably shouldn't have said anything.

"I'm in Garland, I know your in Richardson, do you want to meet at Wood Park? It should be West of you, at the edge of Richardson." He asked.

"Yeah that's good, I may have to walk at some point though. It's hard to get around all of the cars. Whats your name again?" I ask. I've only been to Wood Park a few times, but I should remember how to get there, being an officer I know my way around.

"It's Dean. You said your name is Sara, right?" He asks.

"Yeah, I'll meet you there when I can," I reply.

"Alright." He says, abruptly hanging up.

"Well have a nice day to you too," Jay says sarcastically. I laugh a little at her.

Twenty minutes later, I'm driving down the road and sure enough, we have to get out. I can't get my car around the unmoving traffic. So, we're walking down the street when Jay asks, "What are we going to do after we meet Dean?"

"I'm not sure," I reply, re-adjusting the duffle bag on my back. This thing is just getting heavier. I decided to take a few guns, ammunition, and other weapons. Just in case something happens. I start to see the park in a distance, and a man pacing back and forth at the front, Dean I'm assuming. He see's us and starts walking towards us. As he gets closer I start to see his features. He has short brown hair, about six feet, hazel eyes, and has a well built structure. I guess if we weren't in this situation I would say he's attractive.

Jay lightly nudges my side. When I look at her she wiggles her eyebrows at me while smiling. I lightly shove her back and laugh a little. The things that go on in her head.
