Chapter 18: Soon
Sara's POV: (Barbara Palvin as Mira Picture above)
I stare out the window of my new room. I have to meet Alpha Jaxon on the field at 7PM to show him my skills. As in I have to fight a pack warrior. But, I can't shift. I'm concerned I'll lose if I don't shift. I guess it's best to fight in human form because that's how I was trained in the military.
I'm good with weapons and movement. Hopefully that will be enough to help me survive.
I don't like the fact that I see red and green when I see Jaxon. That's pure evil and mischief. It's nerve racking. Luckily there's not many in his pack that are like that.
I haven't seen not one gimps of Jaydenn. I was put on the fourth floor and I'm about to go looking. I just have to wait for Jaxon to finish his talk with one of the pack members down the hall. Most of the pack likes me, but I counted a few that don't. I just had a shower not long ago. It was nice, I haven't had one in a while. A decent one, anyway.
I did meet one girl. Her name is Mira. She was really sweet, she reminds me of my sister, Jaydenn's mother. I listen carefully as Jaxon's footsteps fade down the stairs. As soon as I stand up to go look, something slips under my door.
I watch the letter skid across the floor and stop a few feet from the door. I bend down and pick it up, it reads,
Third door from the stairs, on the right.
Someone knows about me, and their helping me? Looks like Alpha Jaxon has a big problem he doesn't even know about.
I stuff the note in my pocket and open the door, silently shutting it behind me. I do as instructed and put my ear against the door. I hear nothing. I silently open the door and peek in. Jaydenn's clothes are sitting on the dresser, but she's no where to be seen.
I growl under my breath and shut the door. I decide to head down stairs and into the living room. There Mira sits with a smile talking to another pack member. I walk into the back yard that is now flooded with pack members.
Dean said this pack was small! It's huge!
All eyes land on me and everyone gets quiet.
"Ah, there you are," Jaxon say's, making his way towards me, "I thought I was going to have to come get you." He puts his hand on the small of my back and leads me into the field.
"I didn't realize the time." I reply, not really listening to him. I'm to busy scanning the field looking for Jaydenn.
My eyes suddenly connect with hers. She's standing beside a man. She points and asks him a question, apparently he agrees and fallows her.
Alpha Jaxon lets out a loud whistle and everyone clears a spot in the field, him and I smack in the middle. Jaydenn is on the edge, anxiously watching. Apparently she knows whats going on. She's dressed well and looks as if she's been treated properly.
I nod my head at her, her returning the favor. Now she knows why I'm here.
"Kaden!" Jaxon calls. A man steps forward, a large one. I think that's Kaden.
"Show me what you've got." He say's, and walks off.
Your kidding me!
The man gives a nod and I return it. He shifts and looks at me expectantly. I don't move from my stance. He looks confused but just blows it off.
He immediately switches moods and begins to growl. He's about 20 feet away from me. He starts walking in a circle, so I do the same. I think back to the hand on hand combat we did in the Marines.
He charges at me and I duck just in time. He charges again, aiming at my face with his teeth. I throw my foot up and connect it with his jaw, being sure to avoid his teeth.
He shakes his head, trying to rid the pain. I suddenly look down at my shoes and realize I'm wearing my old black combat boots my dad gave me before he passed. They have a silver blade that retracts at the bottom when you push your toe at a certain angle.
I forgot I had these on the day I left for work. Thank you Dad, you saved my sorry self again.
I push my toe downward on both of my feet and I feel the blade retract into the dirt. He swipes his paw at my legs, causing me to fall and giving me a painful cut on both of my legs.
He jumps on top of me, just in time I bring both my legs up and kick him off, both two inch blades cutting his chest open. He whimpers from the burn of the silver and backs up. I jump up and his head is level with mine.
I throw a hit at his snout and throw one kick to his neck right after. He tumbles to the ground and I pull the blade of my right boot back in. I put my foot on his chest, ready to deliver another blow but he shows his neck and whimper's in surrender.
He shifts back human but I still don't move. He's the one who took Jaydenn. It takes all of my will power to take my foot off and back up before I do something that will blow my cover.
I suddenly hear everyone cheer around me.
I look up at Jaydenn and she smiles. We need to get out of here. Soon.
