Chapter 24: Under One Condition (Merry Christmas Everyone!)
Sara's POV:
"Get inside." Dean demands. I jump up and quickly pull Jaydenn inside. After getting Jaydenn inside I run to the front door and ask Dean, "I thought it would be another 4 or 5 months!"
I nearly have to yell because of all of the howls erupting from the forest.
"I did! Jaxon broke the rules!" He yells back.
"His wolves are poorly trained! He's not even ready!" I yell.
"He's stupid, ok?! Now get inside!" He yells, shoving me in. If you stand still enough you can feel vibration in the ground. I guess the packs are much bigger than I thought. Even though we're inside I can still hear the ear shattering howls from outside.
Dean and Drew begin to barricade the doors with a dresser and other pieces of furniture. I run to the living room and collect all of the weapons we have that are silver. I'm desperate enough to grab guns that are not silver, only for desperate measures.
I run back towards the front where Jay is waiting, petrified. I scatter the weapons on the floor and divide them evenly. I hand Jaydenn a gun, making sure it's the one I taught her to use, and a silver knife.
I'm sure to give Dean and Drew knifes that have wooden handles so they won't hurt themselves. After everything is divided Dean and Drew come to get theirs. I have two knives and two guns, the same as everyone else has. Only one gun is silver though, I'll be sure to use that as a last resort.
I hear Jay groan and I look to see her holding her stomach. She's sitting on the floor with her face twisted up in pain. I kneel beside her and ask, "What's wrong?"
"My stomach hurts, it feels like everything is trying to hurt." She groans out.
Are you kidding me?! This can't be happening now!
"Dean!" I yell. In record time he comes running around the corner.
"What?! What happened?!" he asks.
"She's shifting, I don't know what to do!" I shout over the chaos happening right outside the door. You can now hear screams, howls, and just plain war itself.
"She's not going to pass out like you did! She's a wolf, it's different!" He yells back, "All you can do is sit with her!"
Drew shouts for him to come back and he darts back around the corner. I growl under my breath and sit beside her. It upsets me to know she's hurting and there's nothing I can do but sit here.
A few minutes later and Jaydenn is beginning to cry out in pain. I wrap my arm around her and close my eyes, trying to tune all of this out. Dean comes back and announces everything is secure. He sits on the other side of Jay and say's, "It shouldn't be much longer." Drew then comes around the corner and sits in front of us.
"How does this war end?" I ask.
Dean shrugs his shoulders and looks at Drew. He shifts nervously and say's, "Your not going to like it."
"Just tell me." I growl.
"The cat has to kill the apposing Alpha," He say's, "It's prophecy."
I look at Dean and he doesn't look happy.
"The Alpha who lives will take over the other pack and rule the wolves." He finishes.
"There's got to be another way." Dean growls out.
The conversation is interrupted when I hear a loud crack beside me. It's Jaydenn shifting. I move away as a chocolate brown wolf slowly appears. Her eyes are a golden amber color and she's about five feet tall.
She stands up then stumbles a bit, catching herself before falling.
"Picture yourself human and you'll shift back." I tell her.
She does as told and she shifts human. She smiles with tear stains and say's, "That is so cool!"
For those few seconds I forgot about the war currently going on outside. I think on what Drew said. If I don't do this, Jaydenn may not get home safe and I don't want that. I think long and hard, if p***ing Dean off is what it takes to keep all of us safe, then so be it.
"I'll do it if I have to." I announce. Dean looks at me, confused for a second, then he realizes what I'm saying.
"No, no, and no. I'm not letting you." He growls out.
"Listen to me, Dean. If doing this means getting Jaydenn, getting all of us home safely, then so be it." I growl back in irritation.
He stares at me a minute, well, more like stares through me. I can tell by his blank face he's talking to his wolf.
"Under one condition." He say's. I nod for him to continue, "I get to fight beside you."
I nod my head and he say's, "We can take Jaydenn to the safe house, she will be ok there."
"I'll take her and meet you two at the field." Drew say's, looking to me for permission.
"If something happens to her-" I don't get to finish when Drew interrupts, "Your coming for me, yeah I know."
Dean and Drew begin to move the furniture and I give Jaydenn a hug.
"Be careful and don't trust anyone unless Drew say's otherwise." I tell her.
She nods her head and say's, "Love you."
"Love you too." I reply.
Dean and Drew open the doors and I walk out with my knife in hand and Jay by my side. The battle is on the other side of the pasture, in a large open field. I can see it from here, blood and pure war.
Drew nods for Jaydenn to come with him, a final goodbye and she disappears around the tree's.
I try to calm my racing heart as I make the long walk to the field, praying for help.
