Rae POV:
All I could do was sit there and look at him with his hand over his face, the words that I wanted to say were clearly lined up on the end of my tongue, but I couldn't shove them out into the open. I couldn't make him hear what I was thinking...
Cocaine?
WHERE DOES ONE EVEN GET COCAINE?
We go to private Catholic schools! Who knows anywhere to get cocaine besides some druggy in an alley on bourbon street?!
Almost as if he's reading my mind, Zane mutters, "I have no clue where Nash got it, how he paid for it, or when he got it. All I know is, when my mother screamed for me to get out of my room, I walked out and saw a bag of white powder sitting in front of them on the table."
This makes no sense, "This makes no sense."
Zane takes his hand off of his face and shrugs a response, "So why don't you go hang out with your precious want to be druggie, Nash?" He looks down at me.
I look up at Zane with wide eyes, "Are we still on that subject?"
Zane scoffs and turns so he's no longer facing me. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a cigarette and a lighter, "You know," he says, while liting up, "I saw the way that you looked at me while I smoked." He turns back to me, head facing the ground, "I had it in my head that I was going to quit." He faces his head up as he blows smoke out of his nose, "For you."
I cross my arms still looking at him, "You didn't even know me."
Zane takes another drag off of his cigarette and shows a small smile. He looks up at the darkening sky for a second before whispering, "All I knew was that you couldn't get out of my head."
Wait... Couldn't get out of his head? I couldn't get out of his head? THIS IS THE BEST MOMENT OF MY ENTIRE LIFE, "I don't like your brother." I say quietly.
Zane throws his cigarette on the ground, and then looks to me, "Do you promise?"
I smile to myself, "I promise."
"Then let's go back inside your house." He starts walking towards my house, "You know, until Kahale gets home."
Zane and I walk into my living room, put on a movie, and sit on the couch.
20 minutes into a movie about zombies and aliens, Zane looks down at me, "We both have fucked up families, you think?"
I scoff, "I don't think, I know."
"Promise me that you'll never be like your mom or my brother."
I look up at Zane as he looks down at me. His bright green eyes turned dark, his blonde hair in his face... He looks like a helpless child, "I promise."
Zane nods, and turns his head back to the movie.
"You know Zane, sometimes you sound like a little kid."
Zane thinks for a second, and then smiles, "Given the circumstances, don't I have reason to be?"
