dear future me
are you okay?
have you conquered the war that is your mind?
or have you given in to the longing to decay?
where have you gone?
have you traveled the world,
or have you stayed in bed all day
as your thoughts stabbed and swirled
at your mind?
have you seen the stars?
staring above in the arms of a lover
or does your heart no longer flutter
at those little moments...
do you remember being young?
tied up laces, blackened lungs
and a smile that was a placebo
for all the turmoil and hate
of your current body's state
who are you now?
do you wear a suit of gold,
with a heart filled with money, so cold?
or perhaps you listened to the kid in us
the one who dreamed of paint and flowers
the one that believed in love and trust?
did you lose yourself?
did you slip into the jail cell of your ribcage
or did you finally turn to another page?
another story you could tell
where our life was quite swell
to those who ask of who we once were
a little girl with hotwheel cars and barbie dolls
with a brain that seems to scream and call
for a body unlike hers...
did you help him?
did you help us?
dear future me,
are we okay?
