 The Real Saint Nick

It had been snowing incessantly all of Christmas eve,

And the road outside Richie's house couldn't be seen.

Richie was upset, though, he hadn't got anything from Santa Claus,

He was twelve and his parents said Santa had taken a pause.

What he had wanted so badly was new shoes and some toy,

But his parents told him Santa thought he hadn't been a good boy.

Then through his bedroom window, he saw a little waif- weary and cold

holding on to broken matchsticks she evidently hadn't sold.

The cold was obviously killing her, she hadn't any cloak,

then she fell on the path outside, and the little boy's heart broke.

Then from the other side of the street, a man through snow ran,

he rushed to the girl's side and took her in his hands

He revived her and put on her feet a new pair of shoes,

gave her lots of money and a toy plane of blue.

After the girl had run away, the man entered the house sadly,

Richie heard the door open, and soon his mother screamed madly

She was shouting at her husband, and Richie heard the word, "fool"

And soon his mother came up to speak to Richie and entered his room.

But Richie had tears in his eyes and when his mother asked the cause

Richie simply smiled and said, "It's all right, mommy, I know Santa Claus."
