Title: Oh Freedom?
"You can do whatever it is you want,"
so the movies say, but they neglect to admit
that society's judgement will come
crashing down upon me,
until I no longer have the courage
to raise myself off of the ground.
Oh freedom, where are you?
Your very existence seems to be concealed from me.
I long to see the light
in this dark world,
yet the clouds seem to hide
your pure, warm nature from me.
Oh freedom where are you?
I try to write words after words
in hopes of gaining my courage from you,
yet the dark silhouettes of others haunt
the gliding of my pen
until my pen drops on the floor,
and my hand refuses to write another word.
Oh freedom where are you?
I have called out to you
to come whisk me away from the strings
that try to bind me to an unwanted future.
Oh freedom, your very existence seems to have disappeared.
