Ben was racked with guilt about his sudden new feelings for his padawan. It was as if he could feel her presents in a room without using the force, and he both wanted to avoid her and spend every moment by her side. What was wrong with him! He was working hard to become a powerful Jedi like those who came before him, and and one of the rules was no emotional attachments.
After discovering the truth Rey started having nightmares and reliving their deaths.
"Rey! Wake up!" Ben called out to her appearing in her room using their force link. She awoke with a start, her face wet with tears. "You were crying out in your sleep. Are you ok?"
"No. I keep seeing it. Over and over. It hurts so much but I can't stop it." Ben was heart broken when he saw the pain and fear in her eyes.
"Do you want to show me?" Rey nodded. They extended their hands and Ben was immediately overwhelmed by the maelstrom of emotions that Rey showed him. He felt the pain of seeing her parents abandon her. He saw how she counted everyday she waited on Jakku, he experienced her loss of knowing that she was never going to see them again. But throughout every memory, and every loss he saw how Rey continued to be full of hope. She removed her hand and suddenly Ben was back in his quarters.
"Thank you. I'm sorry for waking you up." Ben was astonished by Rey's strength. She had gone through so much and yet she was so full of light. He could not help but fall more in love with her.
"It's no problem at all, I'll always be here for you." Rey disappeared and Ben chided himself for his foolish attachment to Rey. For Force's sake his job was to train her, not fall for her.
