Twenty One - Calm before the storm

That night had been a turning point for Jeongguk. His mental state improved as well. He felt like a heavy-weight had been lifted from his shoulder after confessing his deep inner thoughts towards Taehyung.

The talk make him realize, not only had he lost his friends in the fire, but he had also lost who he had been and it was only natural for him to feel the way he did. And also, whenever he's ready to return to active duty, the Chief will allowed.

Currently, even by taking desk bound duty, it already earned him the respect of not only his peers but the higher officers too. They were impressed with Jeongguk's willingness to take up additional shifts or agreeing to pitch in, working alongside Jimin, taking images of fire and accidents scenes for investigations.

The change in his position from being a firefighter to an administrator, actually allowed him more time with Taehyung and he loved it.  They went out on dates often, and they spent a lot of time at a local bookstore, often coming home with bags of fanfiction books especially a books of their favourite asian Author, babygirl nura. 🤭

Taehyung had recently begun to wear glasses while reading as his eyesight had started to fade. When Jeongguk came into the living room and his eyes fell on Taehyung, his hunger for him rushed to the surface. Several times he ripped the novel from Taehyung's hands, kissing him senseless before dragging him into the bedroom and devouring him.

Finally reclaiming his normal life, Jeongguk knew he was ready to take the next step. The thoughts has been stuck on his mind since forever. Gathering the courage to go through with his plan, he set an arm around Taehyung's shoulders and pulled him closer to his chest.

The feeling of hugging Taehyung's petite body fitting perfectly against his. He couldn't help but take a breath and smell a whiff of caramel and strawberries. So sweet.

"Let's make it official, Tae."

Taehyung's face immediately lit up as he pulled out from the warmth hug and turn to look at the other, "I-  what y- you're saying? You're serious?!" Taehyung showing Jeongguk his best puppy doe eyes.

"I'am deadly serious. Shall we?" Jeongguk laced their fingers together and Taehyung nodded happily, flashing his adorable boxy smile that lifted Jeongguk's heart and soul, and knowing everything had finally fallen into place again.

But..

Jeongguk body naturally went stiff when he felt Taehyung's thumbs rubbing the ring attached on his fourth finger, "Are you okay, Taehyung?" Jeongguk asked gently.
