THIRTY - AN ACT

What happened last weekend was a big disappointment. I don't understand why no matter how hard I tried to be Jin's friend, he will do or say something annoying. He is very strong-headed.

"Shall I transfer my desk here in your office now?" Taehyung broke the silence.

"What?"

"Hyung, I've been sitting here in front of you for almost thirty minutes now and all I can hear from are sighs. I have lots of pending works on my table. I mean, for real, you will call me just to watch you stare blankly on the wall?" Taehyung whined, his face looks helpless. I know he's busy too. I am busy too but I hate the feeling of nobody listening to me when I want to say something.

"Hyung, I know Namjoon is very patient when it comes to this. He can sit here all day just to watch you being silent. He won't be your best friend for nothing. I am your best friend too but my signature for this company is important too, you know."

"I'm sorry." He's right. All I can do is to sigh. There's a feeling inside me that I cannot understand. I don't know if I'm scared or shy.

"Can you please be honest with me? What's wrong with you and Namjoon? I need the truth." I know Taehyung is getting impatient over my attitude these past few days.

"I don't know. I'm just annoyed at how he's acting lately. I don't know why it feels like he's taking away Soobin's happiness."

"Is it really Soobin?"

"Please Tae, I don't like Jin. I know your question will end there." And a notebook came flying and landed on my head. "What's that for?!"

"You're a coward!" Taehyung rolled his eyes at me and I hated it.

"What did you say?!"

"You're a coward!" He repeated. "You like Jin."

"I don't!"

"Yes, you do! Come on! Aren't you tired? I am tired! We are all tired!" Taehyung's voice raised and it caught me off guard. "Why can't you accept the fact that you're jealous? You're jealous because Namjoon has the balls to ask Jin out.

Second, you're jealous but you're in denial. Why are you denying the obvious? You keep on saying that it's because of Soobin. It's not! Do not treat Soobin like a whiny baby. We both know how matured his mind is. You're whinier than Soobin if you will ask me.

Third, it's okay to fall in love. That's what Ken said in his last letter right? He's hoping that you will find someone who will accompany you in your journey. And you, yourself, making yourself believe that Ken won't like it if you will fall in love again. You think he will get mad at you or will get sad. Come on! Ken wants you to be happy. I am sure that he's sad watching you immersing in grief and in fear. Do you think he will be happy when you're making yourself miserable? Nobody likes seeing you miserable!

Come on Jeon Jungkook! It's been seven years. Seven fucking years! We're getting tired repeating the same words again and again and you're acting as if we don't understand your plight. We do! We want to see you happy too. Just stop all your bullshits and be a man.

You dated before. We can see that you're merely doing that just to satisfy our request. One night stand, goodbye. Now you're paying for someone to satisfy your needs. Do you think Ken is happy seeing you doing that?

I know you're attracted to Jin. You're starting to become possessive over him. I don't know if you're doing that unconsciously but it's so obvious. You're competing with Namjoon for Jin's attention. Do you think I didn't notice that?

It's okay to fall for someone who is the exact opposite of Ken. Ken is quiet, soft and delicate. Jin is brave, noisy and strong-headed. Admit it, you admire him for that. He challenged your ego, your pride. Because he's the only one unfamiliar to you who dared to tell you how you fucked up as a father. He's the one who opened your eyes to see the truth.

Stop all these shits, please? Just move on. Don't stop yourself from moving on. And stop denying the truth. It's getting so tiring. Seriously."

I spent the rest of the day thinking about what Taehyung said this morning. I guess it's time for me to clear things out with Namjoon. We're best friends. He was there for me during my lowest of lows. He was the reason why I met Ken. I know he won't wish for something that will make me more unhappy.

I reviewed all the documents, signed everything and checked the time. It's 3 pm and I need to pick Soobin up from school. I will bring him and Jin home then I will invite Namjoon for a coffee so we can talk.

"Jane, do I still have pending works?" I asked my assistant as soon as I got out of my office.

"None sir. Everything is done." Jane smiled.

"Good. I need to go home now." I looked at Namjoon's table and it's empty. "Where is Namjoon?"

"He went out for a coffee, Mr. Jeon."

"Did he mention where?"

"Near Soobin's school. He likes the lattes there."

"He doesn't like the lattes there. He has other business there. I have to go. Just call me if there's a problem or call Taehyung." With the car key in my hand, I rushed to the parking lot. I wonder why Namjoon keeps on doing that. He used to be so open to me. But lately, he's always keeping something.

I saw Soobin rushing out of the gate as soon as he saw my car. I waited for Jin to come out but nobody came. My hunch is right, he's with Namjoon.

"Where is Teacher Jinnie?" I looked at the back seat to check if Soobin is wearing a seatbelt.

"He said he will have some coffee first and will just come to our house," Soobin answered. Looks like Taehyung is right, Jin going out with someone is not a big deal with Soobin.

"You want some grapefruit ade and blueberry cheesecake?" I asked. It's Soobin's favorite.

His face lightened when he heard it. He nods. It's been a while since the last time we went into a cafe.  We stopped at the coffee shop and I can already see Jin, a friend, and Namjoon from my viewpoint.

"Can you do something for daddy?" I asker and Soobin looks innocently curious. "Can you tell Teacher Jinnie to come with you so you can go home with him together?"

Soobin thinks for a while. "But daddy, he's with Uncle Joonie and Teacher Hobi."

"Exactly. You see, Uncle Joonie likes Teacher Hobi."

"Really? Isn't it Teacher Jinnie that he likes?" Taehyung is right again. Soobin's thinking is matured.

"No. I mean, just listen to daddy okay? Just be quiet about this because this is a secret. Uncle Joonie said that he likes your other teacher. You want Uncle Joonie to be happy, right?"

Soobin nods earning a smile from me.

"Great. And he won't be happy if Teacher Jinnie will keep on intruding. Do you understand me?"

Soobin nods.

"Are you going to tell Teacher Jinnie about our plan?"

Soobin shakes his head. "No. It's our secret, you said daddy."

"Good. Let's go."

Soobin immediately run to Jin as soon as we entered the shop. Jin looks shocked seeing us there.

"What are you doing here?" Jin asked while Soobin gives Namjoon a kiss on the cheek. Soobin loves his Uncle Joonie.

"I asked daddy to buy me blueberry cheesecake." Good boy!

Jin looks at me. Instead of talking to them, I proceeded to order Soobin's favorite.

"Teacher Jinnie, can you come with us now? Daddy said you ate Tteokbokki, can you buy me those?" Wow! Very good boy!

I saw the change in Namjoon's expression. Perhaps, he's disappointed. I don't know why I like seeing him frown and lose.

Jin did not answer and instead, he takes Soobin's hand. He gave in. I know Soobin will do good in acting. I just knew it.
