12: golden week

You arrived at the dorms with the boys. You could hear Hinata screaming from afar about how amazing it was. Beside you was Kageyama who seemed tired and sleepy.

"Oy, you okay?" You say as you nudge him making him snap out of his trance.

"Yeah." He says after a yawn.

"Are you sure? You've just seem off and your eyes look-,"

"I said I'm fine, dumbass!" He said and instantly regretted his words. The other players look at him in shock while you just look at him calmly. He's never spoken to you like this before. Sure, you would tease each other but this didn't seem like a joke.

"If you say so," You say to him.

"You should probably go on and get ready for dinner. After that, please make sure to take a warm bath and prepare for intensive training tomorrow. I'll be on the room next to yours so if you need anything, just knock. Daichi-san, I leave everything to you." You say as you go to your room to prepare for bed.

A few minutes have passed and you didn't come to eat.

"Ah, Kiyoko-san won't l/n-san eat?" Sugawara asks her.

"I asked her multiple times but she said she's full." She says.

"I doubt that. She eats like a monster. Probably like thrice as me." Kageyama blurted out. What the hell was happening to him?

"Oy, Kageyema-kun! Why are you so mean to her? She's always been so nice to you." Hinata says to him as he takes one more bite of his food.

"What do you know, dumbass?" He says and rushes to finish his food. They all go to their dorm and prepare to go to bed. You go to the shower room to cool off a little bit as it was a tiring day. You take your bathrobe off as you turn the shower knob.

"Shit!" You scream. The water was too cold. You go out and see the sign on the door.

"There is no hot water available in girls' bathroom. There is only one in the boys' bathroom. Sorry for the inconvenience." You sigh.

Kageyama and Hinata were preparing their futons as they suddenly heard a knock on the door. Daichi stands up from his position to see you with your hair wet, only with a bathrobe and freezing.

"L-l/n-san! What happened?!" Tanaka asks you.

"Um, I'm really sorry to disturb you this late at ni-," Before you could finish, Nishinoya interrupted you.

"Anything for you, l/n-san."

"Oy Nishinoya let her finish!" Daichi says and nods at you to continue.

"A-are you all done showering?" You say as they all gulp. It was late at night and it's a room full of teenage boys. What were the thoughts running around in their mind?

"Y-yes," Daichi says.

"Good! It's just that there's no hot water available in the girls' shower room so I hope you don't mind me using yours," You finally finish saying. They all take another gulp.

"S-sure l/n-san. Don't worry about it." Sugawara says.

"Thank you very much!" You say and bow and soon closed the doors. They all sigh in unison.

"Ahh you were so strong Daichi-san!" Tanaka says dramatically while punching the air.

"Yes, I admire you for still being able to stay calm," Nishinoya says dramatically too.

"What the hell are you talking about?! Go to sleep!" He says as he turns the lights off.

—the next morning

"How was your sleep l/n-san?" Hinata asks you.

"Oh! It was alright. I had the dorm room all to myself so it kinda felt lonely but it was alright." You said as Kageyama looks at you but avoids your gaze.

The day went on productive again, with more training and practice. You were cleaning up the gym when you heard someone clear their throat.

"F-F/n, I'm sorry," Kageyama says softly.

"Ehhhh for what?" You say in confusion.

"I-Uh called you a dumbass," He says while he scratched his face to avoid your gaze.

"What? That was nothing! I was just giving you time since you weren't in the mood. Is something up?" You ask as he thinks. Was there something up? He wasn't even sure.

"Ah I see. But still, I'm sorry for screaming at you." He says as you give him a smile.

"But umm are you still afraid of the dark and sleeping alone?" He asks as you choke on your water.

"N-no! What makes you say that?" You say in a high pitched voice.

"Hmm. I'll try to find a way later." He says.

"W-What?" You say as he runs off.

You go back to your dorm and sigh as you felt succumbed by the darkness and loneliness again. You laid on your bed and hugged your pillow. You checked your bag to see that you've left your sleeping pills. You sigh as you lay down on your bed, feeling your tears build up.

—flashback

"Happy birthday, baby!" You hear your boyfriend, Oikawa say as he approached you from behind. You were about to do another serve when you were surprised by the back hug you received from your boyfriend.

"Happy birthday, f/n!" Iwaizumi says too. They hand you a poorly wrapped box.

"Go on, open it!" Oikawa says almost jumping in excitement as you unwrapped the gift. It was a framed photo of you.

"O-oh! This is the picture from our first date!" You exclaim.

"Yes! But look behind the frame and turn it on!" He says.

You flip the photo to see a button. You flip the switch and see the picture and the frame light up.

"It's so that whenever I can't stay with you for the night for some reason, you have nothing to worry about." He smiles at you and you almost tear up. It was a thoughtful gift. You hug him as he lifts your face to meet his eyes. He gives you a soft peck on your lips.

"I love you!" He says as he rubs his nose against yours.

"I love you more!" You say. They both leave you to get ready to stretch as it was almost time for their official practice.

They set their bags on the bench near Kageyama who was also getting ready for practice. Unbeknownst to them, he was watching and listening to them.

"How did you know that f/n would like that weird gift of yours? Really? A picture that lights up?" Iwaizumi says.

"F/n is scared of the dark and usually I would stay at her place to give her at least a bit of comfort but when there are matches the next day, I can't stay with her so I just gave her the next best thing." He said with a satisfied smile.

Suddenly, you hear a knock on your door. You get up from your bed and slide the door to reveal Kageyama with a stuffed carrot on his arm. He walks past you and lays a sleeping bag next to yours.

"W-whaaat?!" You say to him as he lays down on his sleeping bag.

"Let's go to sleep f/n. I'm tired." He says as he closed his eyes.
