Y/N

"Woah... father told you that?" Y/N smiles at Erwin with glee evident in her naive eyes, and he nods, grinning happily down at his little sister. They were both sat on the bed in the young girl's room as Erwin was telling her about their father's theory on humanity. "It's so extraordinary, right? Y/N, one day we'll uncover the secret of humanity. We'll do it together!" Erwin tended to get passionate about things, but this was different to Y/N. He seemed to be talking about this differently than he ever had before.

"Is that a promise?" The girl cheekily says and he nods. They connect connect their pinkie fingers and smile at each other - the promise was sealed, never to be broken; no matter how long it took to fulfil. Y/N was 4 years younger than her brother, but he never failed to join in with her childish antics. After  a few more minutes, joined with their giggles and wishers, their father opens the door with a small smile on his face, knocking to get their attention as he meant against the door frame. "Alright, Erwin. Time to say night to your little sister and go to bed." In an attempt of persuasion, the children both pout, followed by Y/N flopping down on the bed, pulling Erwin down with her.

"But father, we want to stay up! Can't you tell us about your theories of the outside world?" The blond man closes his eyes, grinning - the thoughts his children had never failed to amuse him, and the wah they expressed it would always be surprising. "Those are some big words for an 8 year old girl, Y/N." Y/N folds her arms, frowning at him playfully. "I'm a big girl!" Erwin laughs slightly, looking at her from where he was laid beside her. "You're a midget!"

Y/N pouts again, averting her gaze. "Now now, Erwin. Don't tease your sister. Y/N, we'll talk more about it tomorrow. Erwin, bedtime now. I'll come say goodnight to you in a moment." Erwin nods after a while and leaves the bedroom, not before kissing his little sister on the forehead and saying goodnight - he never failed to do it. The bond between the two siblings would forever be unbreakable.

Ian Smith lifts his daughter up and cradles her in his arms, and by automatic response, she leans her head against his chest - like a normal father would with his daughter. "Y'know, the world is a scary place for a little girl like you." With a roll of her eyes (which shocked the man), Y/N grins up at him. A scary place, for Y/N? Never. She was fearless; or that is what she wanted to think. "But you'll be here to protect me." He shakes his head, stroking her hair. "I won't always be here." Ian never wanted his children to be exposed to the truth of the world; the one his wife had told him of.

The little girl ponders for a moment, before smiling again. "Then I'll grow up to be big and strong so I can make you proud! We'll go to the outside world together, daddy!" She rarely ever called him that, only in moments like this do she find it suitable. "I promise, I'll protect you and Erwin!" That was a promise that she would only ever be able to half love up to, the lengths she would extend to, to do so would be extraordinary. He smiles sweetly at his daughter, before placing her on the bed and tucking her in.

"Goodnight my little explorer." He kisses her forehead, and to his surprise, she jumps up and wraps her petit, child arms around his neck. "Night, daddy! I love you and I will forever!" He chuckles, pushing her down playfully and ruffling her hair. "I love you too, now you go to sleep now." She nods happily, and he blows out her candle, before leaving. That was their last full day together - the last moment the father and daughter would ever be able to share.

The next day...

Y/N was stood with her friends in Stohess' main plaza, talking with them with her usual bright smile on her face. One she never failed to give. Erwin and his friends were only a short distance away so she felt safe being out there. Out of the blue, two MPs walked up to the h/c girl and grabbed her upper arm. Startled, she looks up at them in confusion and worry. What was going on? Had she done something wrong? On instinct, she sent her friends a signal with her eyes and they ran off in Erwin's direction.
